Job description

We’re looking for a strategic and highly analytical AI Governance & Risk Lead to help ensure Artificial Intelligence is adopted responsibly across E.ON Next. In this role, you’ll establish and embed governance, assurance and risk frameworks that enable AI to scale safely, responsibly and in line with UK regulatory requirements and EU regulation applicable to an EU-headquartered business.

Working within a product-led environment, you’ll collaborate with AI, Data, Engineering, Legal, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure AI solutions are ethical, transparent and trusted by design.

You’ll play a key role in embedding Responsible AI principles across the organisation, balancing robust governance with the agility needed to accelerate innovation and deliver business value.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll be doing

AI assurance, audit and governance

  • Define and operate AI assurance, governance and steering processes using a proportionate, risk-based approach.
  • Lead AI audit activities, ensuring findings are tracked through to resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Provide a clear and evidence-based view of AI risk and compliance to AI and Digital Technology leadership.
  • Embed governance that enables innovation while ensuring AI initiatives meet organisational standards and regulatory requirements.

Regulatory compliance and risk management

  • Ensure AI initiatives comply with UK regulatory requirements and EU regulation applicable to an EU-headquartered business, including the EU AI Act where appropriate.
  • Monitor the evolving AI regulatory landscape and translate new requirements into practical governance controls.
  • Partner with Legal, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure AI solutions meet all regulatory and policy obligations.
  • Maintain and evolve AI risk frameworks, classification models and risk-based deployment criteria across the AI portfolio.

Responsible AI and ethical governance

  • Embed Responsible AI principles, including ethics, bias mitigation, explainability and transparency, throughout the AI lifecycle.
  • Define and promote human-in-the-loop principles and appropriate governance for automated decision-making.
  • Review AI initiatives and provide guidance to delivery teams to ensure responsible AI standards are consistently applied.
  • Partner with Data teams to ensure AI solutions are built on trusted, governed and high-quality data.

Stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement

  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across AI, Data, Engineering, Risk, Legal and Compliance functions.
  • Provide clear guidance and challenge where appropriate to support safe and responsible AI adoption.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen governance frameworks while enabling innovation and speed to value.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement across AI governance activities.

  • Experience designing and operating governance, assurance, audit and risk frameworks.
  • Experience embedding Responsible AI principles, including explainability, bias mitigation and risk-based deployment.
  • Good understanding of UK regulatory requirements and EU AI regulation, with the ability to translate evolving legislation into practical governance controls.
  • Knowledge of human-in-the-loop approaches, safe automation and governance for AI-enabled decision making.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and the importance of trusted, high-quality data for AI solutions.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and collaborating with Risk, Legal, Compliance, Data and Technology teams.
  • Working knowledge of modern AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and predictive AI, with the ability to assess associated risks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate governance requirements, challenge constructively and build trusted relationships across the business.
  • Passion for enabling responsible innovation while maintaining robust governance and compliance standards.

  • Experience implementing AI governance frameworks within a large, regulated organisation.
  • Knowledge of the EU AI Act and emerging AI regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audit activities.
  • Professional qualifications or certifications in risk, governance, information security or AI ethics.
