Job description

A well-established electronics manufacturer in Stockport is looking for an Embedded Firmware Engineer / Firmware Design Engineer to join its product development team.

This is a particularly attractive opportunity if you enjoy developing real electronic products and want to see your work progress from initial development and prototype through testing and into manufacture.

The company designs and manufactures its products on the same site, with firmware engineers working closely with electronics, mechanical and manufacturing teams.

You’ll take ownership of firmware activities on individual development projects, supported by an experienced Lead Firmware Engineer.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing embedded firmware for new electronic products
  • Writing and maintaining Embedded C
  • Developing firmware for microcontroller-based systems
  • Firmware and hardware integration
  • Debugging and fault finding
  • Developing and testing real-time embedded applications
  • Board bring-up and system integration
  • Supporting prototypes, verification and validation
  • Working with communication interfaces and protocols
  • Supporting products through development and into manufacture
  • Contributing to firmware architecture and design reviews

Requirements

You’ll need commercial experience developing embedded firmware for electronic products, including:

  • Embedded C
  • Microcontroller-based development
  • Firmware debugging and testing
  • Hardware/firmware integration
  • Product development experience

Experience with any of the following would be useful:

  • STM32
  • PIC
  • RTOS
  • ThreadX
  • USBX
  • TCP/IP
  • USB
  • IAR Embedded Workbench
  • STM32CubeIDE
  • C#

You don’t need to tick every technical box. Experience with comparable microcontrollers, RTOS platforms and embedded development environments will also be considered.
