Job description

Overview

Ashby is hiring for a role that blends design and software engineering. The candidate will tackle challenging design problems, expand and enhance the in-house design system, and consult on bespoke work to help others improve their designs. The team aims to build approachable products that are powerful for power users, grounded in code and design practice.

Responsibilities

  • Redesign mobile web app by talking with customers, wireframing new flows, implementing the design system, and turning wireframes into a working product.
  • Build flexible, composable components in the design system to enable engineers to create custom autocompletes with filters and record-creation options.
  • Improve information hierarchy and scannability of designs to aid quick parsing of data by recruiters and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across product, design, and engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions, scalable design tokens, and reusable components.

What We’re Building

We create software that helps TA teams work more efficiently with intelligent tooling and a strong design system. Our products are crafted to be approachable for beginners but extendable for power users, with a focus on productive, information-rich interfaces.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Ability to design and build software, with experience designing complex interfaces and collaborating with engineers.
  • Strong fundamentals in software development and an interest in design systems and usability.
  • Tech stack familiarity or openness to TypeScript (frontend & backend), React, GraphQL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt across a fast-paced engineering culture that values ownership and collaboration.

Engineering Culture

Our culture emphasizes minimal process with ownership, natural collaboration, and deliberate communication. Engineers own their projects end-to-end, with PMs and designers providing strategy, research, and problem briefs. We value focus time and sustainable work hours.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • 10-year exercise window for stock options.
  • Unlimited PTO and generous paid parental leave (minimum 12 weeks). For non-U.S. employees, leave aligns with regional requirements.
  • Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
  • $100/month education budget for professional development and conferences with manager approval.
  • Comprehensive health insurance for U.S. employees and dependents; high-quality international coverage for other countries, fully covered.

Ashby provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce.
