Job description
EDA is at the center of IBMâs Agentic AI transformation in semiconductor development. As an EDA Software Engineer, you will work alongside experienced engineers to design, develop, and deploy innovative tools used across IBM zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Computing products.
Work you could be doing:
AI-Driven Automation: Develop and deploy Agentic AI and machine learning solutions that automate complex chip design workflows, including synthesis and place-and-route
Tool Development: Build and maintain software tools that support logic design, functional verification, timing analysis, and physical design
Algorithm Engineering: Design and implement efficient algorithms and large-scale software systems that improve design quality and accelerate chip development
Collaborative Innovation: Partner with hardware and software engineers across IBM to deliver solutions that shape the future of computing
Requirements
The IBM Electronic Design Automation (EDA) team is seeking motivated early-career engineers with a passion for software engineering, AI, and semiconductor design. Our team develops advanced software and Agentic AI solutions that drive the design and verification of IBMâs next-generation processors and computing systems - spanning logic design, verification, synthesis, routing, and timing analysis.
These positions are competitive. We encourage applications from candidates with demonstrated programming skills, a foundation in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering, and a genuine interest in AI and advanced computing., * BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with object-oriented programming languages such as C++, Java, Rust, or similar
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages
- Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and digital logic design
- Coursework or project experience with AI or Agent Engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to develop efficient algorithms and software solutions
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative, fast-paced engineering environments
- Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn new technologies
Preferred technical and professional experience
- MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Knowledge of computer architecture and microarchitecture
- Familiarity with digital, VLSI, or semiconductor design concepts
- Experience with logic design, functional verification, synthesis, place-and-route, or timing analysis
- Experience with GenAI, Agentic AI systems, ML frameworks, or AI-assisted software development
- Experience developing software in Linux environments
- Understanding of software engineering practices, testing methodologies, and version control systemsâ
