Job description
We are seeking an Application Architect - AWS Cloud to support the design, assessment, and implementation of secure cloud-native solutions within HMRC’s Security & Resilience portfolio.
This role is suited to a junior architect or strong technical resource transitioning into architecture, with hands-on cloud exposure and foundational cybersecurity awareness.
The architect will collaborate with security, platform, and application teams to ensure secure-by-design principles are embedded across AWS-based workloads.
Key Responsibilities
- Support architecture design and technical solutioning within AWS cloud environments.
- Contribute to secure application architecture aligned with cyber security standards and government compliance frameworks.
- Identify and assess vulnerabilities across applications and cloud infrastructure.
- Assist in vulnerability management processes including remediation tracking and risk assessment.
- Collaborate with IAM and security teams to enforce least-privilege access models.
- Contribute to resilience engineering, ensuring availability, integrity, and confidentiality of systems.
- Produce architecture artefacts, design documentation, and technical assessments.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience operating as a junior architect or strong technical contributor in cloud-based projects.
- Practical knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture fundamentals.
- Understanding of security vulnerabilities, common threat vectors, and vulnerability management processes.
- Awareness of secure coding and secure application design principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements

- Practical knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture fundamentals.
