Software Developer

To work closely with the Head of ICT and Business Applications Manager in supporting the selection, development, maintenance, integration and testing of software systems & solutions. The role is highly varied, and the Software Developer will need to be proficient in a range of programming languages. The individual will need to be flexible and adaptable in order to meet the changing requirements of the business. Their main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing current business systems and software applications

• Presenting proposals for system improvements, including risk, cost and benefit considerations

• Producing detailed specifications compliant with the Forensic Science Regulator Code and business policies

• Working closely with peers, other staff and third-party providers to deliver timely and cost-effective business solutions

• Conducting robust testing of business solutions within controlled environments, adhering to change control protocols

• Ongoing system and software maintenance and support

• Publishing training manuals and other supporting materials for users

• Minimum of 3 years working within a regulated, quality-controlled, technical sector

• Experience with technical business systems or Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), including development, configuration, customisation, integration and technical support

• Hands-on experience with the BlackRainbow “NIMBUS” system would be ideal

• Demonstrable software development experience using a range of programming languages including web-based applications and secure HTTPS portals

• Experience with SSIS, ETL processes, APIs and integrating business and third-party systems. SQL server & database experience would be an advantage

• ICT project management and change control

• Practical understanding of working in a multi-project environment, including project planning and implementation

• Excellent communication skills at all levels (both written and verbal)

• Strong quality focus with a good awareness of quality standards, * A relevant computing qualification, degree or relevant experience
