Embedded Software Engineer 3 (Remote Control Systems)

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to support Caterpillar’s Remote Control Systems team. The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and validating embedded software and control systems used in remote-controlled machine applications. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams on software development, system architecture, integration, troubleshooting, and validation for next-generation autonomy and remote-control technologies.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• 5+ years of Embedded C/C++ development experience
• 5+ years of MATLAB/Simulink experience
• 5+ years of embedded systems development within an RTOS environment
• 5+ years of system integration and validation experience
• Experience with CAN, Ethernet, and embedded control systems
• Experience using CANoe/CANalyzer, Wireshark, and Git
• Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and system validation skills
• Must be able to work onsite in Mossville, IL

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with autonomy, robotics, remote control, or machine control systems
• Functional Safety and FMEA experience
• HIL/SIL testing experience
• Experience with DOORS or Jama
• Familiarity with AUTOSAR and automated test frameworks
• Experience using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot
