Job description

We are looking for an experienced HRIS Specialist with strong Sage People expertise to join a dynamic, fast-paced SME at an important stage in the development of its People systems and processes.

The business has recently implemented Sage People, working alongside third-party implementation partner Phase 3, with the programme sponsored at SLT level and overseen by the People Director.

With the People Director shortly commencing maternity leave, we are looking for a hands-on HRIS specialist who can take ownership of the system, get into the granular detail of its configuration and help the People team maximise its capabilities.

This is not simply a systems administration role. We need someone who understands People Operations and the employee lifecycle, can translate the needs of internal customers into effective system solutions, and can identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and the overall user experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will take a hands-on role in the ongoing development and optimisation of Sage People, working closely with the People team, Payroll Manager and wider business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of the day-to-day management, configuration and optimisation of Sage People
  • Getting into the backend and granular system detail, troubleshooting issues and improving configuration
  • Reviewing the current implementation and identifying opportunities to better utilise Sage People functionality
  • Translating People Operations requirements into practical system solutions and workflows
  • Improving processes across the employee lifecycle, with a focus on efficiency, consistency and user experience
  • Supporting reporting, data integrity and the effective use of People data
  • Working closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure relevant HR and payroll processes and data flows are robust
  • Managing and supporting relationships with third-party providers where required
  • Advising the People team on HRIS best practice and helping them understand how to get more value from the system
  • Documenting processes, system configuration and ways of working
  • Upskilling the existing People team, ensuring knowledge is transferred and retained within the business
  • Supporting the business as it develops its longer-term systems roadmap, including future plans to introduce a broader ERP solution, There is already senior sponsorship for the People systems agenda, alongside an established People Advisor and Payroll Manager. You will therefore be joining a business that has already invested in its HR technology and now wants to ensure it is getting the maximum value from that investment.

The longer-term ambition is to continue developing the organisation’s technology landscape, including the introduction of a broader ERP system, making this a great opportunity for someone who enjoys helping businesses mature their systems and processes.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical HRIS capability with a genuine understanding of People Operations., * Strong, hands-on experience of Sage People

  • Experience configuring, administering and optimising HR systems rather than solely using them as an end user
  • A strong understanding of the backend of an HRIS, including workflows, data, reporting and system configuration
  • Previous experience within People Operations, HR Operations or a similar HR environment
  • The ability to understand what internal customers need and translate those requirements into effective system solutions
  • Experience joining a business following an HRIS implementation and helping move the system from implementation into optimisation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an eye for detail
  • Confidence working independently and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience working within an SME, scaling business or start-up environment, where priorities can change quickly
  • The ability to work pragmatically in a dynamic environment rather than relying on heavily established processes
  • Experience transferring knowledge and upskilling internal teams

Experience working with an implementation partner such as Phase 3, or exposure to wider ERP implementations and integrations, would be advantageous.
