Job description

Serving as the embedded technical anchor for our client’s multi-megawatt data center buildout in Southeast Ohio and Norther West Virginia, this position bridges power engineering design with active construction operations. The role exists to ensure high-voltage utility grid integration, resolve critical field inquiries, and maintain project delivery timelines on-site. Substation Electrical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Lead physical and electrical engineering design for utility and industrial power delivery systems ranging from 12kV to 345kV
  • Embed on-site three days per week in Southeast Ohio as the primary engineering representative for our client
  • Resolve field inquiries and coordinate daily construction activity on active data center buildouts
  • Manage project deliverables, schedules, and cross-functional alignment across design teams through 30/60/90 IFC milestones
  • Deliver single-line diagrams, three-line AC/DC elementaries, station elevation layouts, and protection and control drawing packages
  • Perform power system calculations including ground grid analysis, short circuit studies, protective device coordination, load flow, and lightning protection
  • Coordinate cross-discipline requirements for structural steel layouts, civil foundations, and high-voltage equipment selection with contractors and vendors
  • Mentor junior engineering staff on technical design standards and project execution
  • Assist executive leadership with technical proposal development and project cost estimation Substation Electrical Engineer Reporting Relationships: The candidate reports directly to our client’s Company President and does not have direct reports, though they serve as a technical mentor to junior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET)
  • Possess 5+ years of power systems engineering experience focused on medium- to high-voltage systems (12kV to 345kV)
  • Bring direct substation design experience within utility or industrial power delivery environments
  • Demonstrate proven project management capabilities coordinating contractors and resolving technical issues on active construction sites
  • Reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Southeast Ohio (e.g., Cambridge, OH; Wheeling, WV; Parkersburg, WV; or Clarksburg, WV)
  • Maintain proficiency with industry drafting and power analysis tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, SKM, WinIGS, or EasyPower
  • Feature comprehensive knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and industry codes governing medium- and high-voltage power systems
