Job description

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-profile data transformation and reporting migration programme. This is a hands-on contract role focused on supporting the transition from a Legacy reporting environment to a modern data platform while ensuring business-critical reporting remains stable and accurate throughout the migration. The Role

You will play a key role in designing and implementing data mapping frameworks, compatibility layers and reporting solutions that enable Legacy and new platforms to operate in parallel. Working closely with both technical teams and business stakeholders, you will help validate data quality, resolve reporting challenges and support the successful adoption of the new reporting foundation., * Designing and maintaining metadata-driven mapping frameworks between Legacy and new reporting schemas.

  • Building compatibility views and transformation layers to support existing SQL procedures, Power BI dashboards and paginated reports without requiring significant modification.
  • Implementing schema drift detection and data quality controls across evolving reporting datasets.
  • Supporting the extension of Azure Data Lake Gen2 storage and restoration processes across multiple data sources.
  • Validating and reconciling reporting outputs between Legacy and new platforms.
  • Providing BAU reporting support, troubleshooting data issues and responding to changing business requirements during the migration programme.
  • Designing and delivering future-state fact and dimension models to support long-term reporting and analytics requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong SQL development and data engineering experience.
  • Proven experience delivering data migration, reporting migration or data warehouse transformation projects.
  • Experience working with Azure Data Lake Gen2 and modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, including fact and dimension modelling.
  • Experience supporting Power BI and enterprise reporting environments.
  • Ability to analyse complex data structures and work directly with business stakeholders.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments where stability of reporting and data quality are critical.

Desirable

  • Azure data ecosystem experience.
  • Experience implementing metadata-driven solutions and schema management processes.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing best practices and dimensional modelling methodologies.
  • Previous experience supporting large-scale business transformation programmes.
