Job description

The Data Center Technician supports the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic and low-voltage cable infrastructure within active data center and construction environments. This hands-on role performs fiber termination, Fluke and OTDR testing, troubleshooting, equipment rack and stack, infrastructure buildouts, and installation work according to blueprints and project specifications. The position requires at least 2 years of data center technician experience and 2 years of fiber experience, along with the ability to safely perform physically demanding work for extended shifts. This is a construction-focused data center infrastructure position rather than an IT support role and requires flexibility to work significant overtime as project needs dictate., * Perform cable infrastructure and fiber rough-in installations.

  • Dress, route, manage, and label cable and fiber according to project specifications.
  • Perform cable and fiber termination.
  • Install and configure single-mode and multimode fiber and various fiber connectors, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.
  • Perform Fluke and OTDR testing to verify fiber installation and performance.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic cabling and connectivity issues.
  • Rack and stack customer equipment.
  • Build out server racks and complete rack elevations according to project requirements.
  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, cabinets, and related infrastructure.
  • Complete infrastructure installations, including cable management and pathway systems.
  • Receive project materials and perform hardware assembly as required.
  • Perform Outside Plant (OSP) installations, including routing fiber into data center facilities.
  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and installation plans.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and management.
  • Follow all applicable safety guidelines and protocols, including proper PPE use, jobsite cleanup, and OSHA requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Data Center Technician experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on fiber optic experience.
  • Low-voltage or telecommunications experience in commercial construction or data center environments.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber termination, Fluke testing, OTDR testing, and fiber troubleshooting.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work 5-6 days per week, approximately 10-12 hours per day, including required overtime based on project needs.
  • Ability to work safely on ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the entire shift.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, installation plans, and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide and use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, gloves, tool pouch, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)

  • Schedule requires approximately 5-6 workdays per week and 10-12-hour shifts.
  • Overtime availability is required and is considered an essential expectation of the position.
  • This is a hands-on construction and infrastructure role within a data center environment and is not an IT support position.
  • Travel is not required; however, willingness to travel is a plus.
