Job description

  • Develop advanced prompts that enhance AI performance for cybersecurity-focused applications
  • Create and maintain AI harnesses used to support testing, research, and security analysis
  • Improve prompt effectiveness through experimentation, benchmarking, and iterative refinement
  • Support AI-assisted initiatives related to vulnerability identification and risk assessment
  • Analyze outputs generated by large language models and determine which findings warrant additional investigation
  • Collaborate with security professionals to better understand business and technical requirements
  • Assist in the development of repeatable AI workflows that support security operations
  • Research new prompting approaches and evaluate emerging AI technologies
  • Work with technical teams to ensure that AI-generated insights can be captured, stored, and utilized effectively
  • Build prototypes and proofs of concept that demonstrate the value of AI within cybersecurity programs

Job Description A technology-driven cybersecurity organization is seeking a skilled AI Prompt Engineer to help advance the use of Generative AI for security testing, threat analysis, and vulnerability research. This role is designed for individuals who enjoy building practical AI solutions, experimenting with frontier language models, and transforming complex security challenges into scalable AI-driven workflows. The team is focused on applying modern AI technologies to real-world cybersecurity problems, leveraging prompt engineering, model evaluation, and software development to improve security outcomes. Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of both AI capabilities and cybersecurity concepts, along with a track record of designing, testing, and refining solutions that deliver meaningful results. Rather than focusing solely on research, this position emphasizes execution, innovation, and continuous improvement. The environment rewards curiosity, technical depth, and the ability to rapidly iterate on ideas while partnering with security and engineering teams. This is a 12-month contract opportunity based in Raleigh, NC with a hybrid schedule requiring three days onsite per week. Required Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI technologies and Large Language Models
  • Ability to design and implement advanced prompts for complex technical use cases
  • Experience building AI frameworks, prompt workflows, or model interaction layers
  • Strong cybersecurity foundation, including knowledge of vulnerabilities, threat analysis, and defensive security practices
  • Familiarity with security testing approaches such as SAST, DAST, penetration testing, or vulnerability assessments
  • Professional software development experience with Python, Go, .NET, or similar technologies
  • Experience evaluating model outputs and improving performance through testing and iteration
  • Understanding of network and application security principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience applying AI to cybersecurity initiatives
  • Exposure to model stress testing, adversarial prompting, or AI red-team activities
  • Background in security research, threat intelligence, or cyber defense operations
  • Knowledge of malware analysis and security investigation techniques
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Cloud SQL, or related database technologies
  • Familiarity with cloud-hosted environments
  • Exposure to Kubernetes or GKE platforms
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale technology and security programs, Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
