Job description

I’m currently partnered with an exciting Computer Vision AI company that is building the future of real-time retail execution. Their mission is to solve tough, real-world problems in retail by providing immediate, scalable, and accurate in-store visibility through their proprietary platform.

This platform is powered by a Computer Vision engine that creatively leverages synthetic data, large vision models, and smart pipelines. They are now looking for a Computer Vision Tech Lead to take a pivotal role in scaling their vision AI product. We need a hands-on leader with deep technical experience, scientific rigor, and a product-aware mindset to turn complex vision problems into practical, scalable solutions.

What you’ll do

  • Drive model development from the initial idea through to deployment. You will lead the design, training, and optimisation of Computer Vision models for detection, recognition, segmentation, and tracking tasks.
  • Own the evolution of our in-house LVM efforts, shaping it into a best-in-class system by improving its performance, reliability, and scalability. This includes designing and deploying a highly generalisable LVM tailored for retail.
  • Advance our synthetic data generation pipeline, focusing on scaling diversity, improving generalisation, and applying domain adaptation strategies to boost model robustness.
  • Work with Product, Infrastructure, and Customer teams to deliver models that integrate seamlessly into field workflows. You will align technical direction with business goals through technical leadership - without any line management responsibilities.
  • Champion practical engineering and good data practices, ensuring clean, reliable, and well-managed data is at the heart of all model development. Use PyTorch (or similar frameworks) for rigorous, fast experimentation.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Proven track record developing and deploying large-scale CV models in production.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with hands-on experience in PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Deep understanding of modern Computer Vision architectures, huge vision models and Transformers.
  • Experience with MLOps tools and workflows is required.
  • Desirable: Experience with multimodal data (images, video, text) is highly desirable., * You are hands-on and self-directed with a strong sense of ownership.
  • You think clearly, test quickly, and iterate based on evidence, not instinct.
  • You communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Interested in being central to how a fast-moving, high-growth platform evolves globally?

Benefits & conditions

  • An open salary structure offering a competitive salary of up to £150k per year.
  • You’ll be offered equity share options, allowing you to partake in the value you help build.
  • Hybrid-first approach based out of our vibrant central London.
  • A generous 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Comprehensive private medical coverage, including dental, optical, and travel insurance, prioritising both physical and mental health.
  • A culture of kindness, openness, and trust where every voice matters.
