Requirements

We?re looking for candidates with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset. Ideally, you have:

  • A Master?s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Solid understanding of digital logic design, hardware architecture and design principles
  • Familiarity with PCB technologies and materials
  • Programming experience (preferably Python)
  • Experience with hardware development tools and design flows (e.g. Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Altium)
  • Experience with FPGA development, RTL design, or schematic capture is a plus
  • Strong interest in applying AI technologies to enhance design efficiency
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools, coding assistants, or workflow automation is a plus
  • Proactive, self-driven approach combined with a strong commitment to teamwork
  • Excellent communication skills in English and German

Your role and responsibilities Your Role: Hardware Development Engineer - System & Card Logic Design We?re hiring development engineers (f/m/x) to join our System & Card Design team starting January 1, 2027. As part of IBM?s Electronic Packaging organization, you will design, develop, and integrate innovative hardware solutions spanning server boards, processor modules, and validation hardware for IBM?s flagship IBM Z, POWER, and Quantum platforms. In this role, you will help shape the next generation of enterprise computing systems that power critical infrastructures for banks, airlines, governments, and businesses around the world. Working in close collaboration with global development teams, you will take ownership of hardware solutions from concept and architecture through implementation, and validation, driving innovation across the full development lifecycle. Key Areas of Work

  • Architecture: Develop the logical architecture for systems, server boards and cards.
  • Logic & Physical Design: Develop and layout complex digital and analog circuits.
  • Packaging Design: Develop single and multi-chip processors modules.
  • Hardware Test: Support prototype validation, hardware bring-up, and issue resolution.
  • AI & Engineering Productivity: Explore, develop, and adopt AI-assisted engineering workflows to accelerate design, verification, analysis, and development activities.
