Job description

The Data Operations Developer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, quality, and operational readiness of data assets that support CareQuest Institute’s data exchange platform and analytics initiatives. This role serves as a critical operational bridge across data governance, data engineering, data products, and data science teams.

The Data Operations Developer manages reference data, metadata, supports data ingestion workflows, and maintains quality assurance processes to ensure data is accurate, well-documented, and continuously available. By supporting core data operations functions, this role enables broader access to trusted data while allowing engineering and product teams to focus on high-impact platform development and innovation., Data Operations & Reference Data Management

  • Oversee and maintain reference data assets, including clinical code sets (e.g., CDT, CPT, ICD), geographic indicators, and sociodemographic fields.
  • Manage and document metadata, including field definitions, structural changes, and content updates in incoming datasets.
  • Collaborate with data governance, data engineering, and data product teams to ensure alignment with organizational data standards and policies.

Data Ingestion & Operational Reliability

  • Monitor the integrity, continuity, and performance of incoming data feeds to ensure uninterrupted availability of data within the data exchange platform.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data ingestion issues in collaboration with internal teams and external data providers.
  • Support scalable data ingestion processes that enable timely onboarding of new and evolving data sources.

Data Quality & Readiness

  • Maintain data quality checks to identify issues related to completeness, consistency, and validity prior to end-user access.
  • Partner with data science and analytics teams to ensure data is analysis ready and fit for research, reporting, and product use cases.
  • Document known data limitations, quality considerations, and changes for internal users, spokes, and external researchers.

Ad Hoc & Strategic Data Support

  • Facilitate the onboarding of ad hoc or time sensitive data sources to support urgent organizational, research, or policy needs.
  • Provide foundational support for medical dental integration (MDI) initiatives and other analytics driven efforts.

Cross Functional Collaboration & Enablement

  • Serve as an operational liaison across data governance, data products, and data science teams to uphold and operationalize the data governance framework.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data catalogs and documentation to support internal and external data users.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Controlled vocabularies?, * Bachelor’s degree in data science, information systems, computer science, public health, health informatics, statistics, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.

  • 3-5 years of experience working with data in an operational, analytical, or technical capacity (e.g., data operations, analytics, data engineering, data management, or similar roles).
  • Hands-on experience supporting data ingestion workflows, managing reference data, metadata, or data quality processes.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, analytics, product, or governance stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to document data structures, changes, and quality considerations clearly for technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with healthcare, public health, or policy relevant data (e.g., claims, encounters, clinical codes, demographics, geographic indicators).
  • Familiarity with clinical code systems such as CDT, CPT, ICD, or similar standardized vocabularies.
  • Experience working with Jira, Purview, and Github.
  • Experience supporting data catalogs, data governance frameworks, or enterprise analytics platforms.
  • Comfort working in fast paced environments with evolving data needs, including ad hoc or time sensitive data requests.
  • Experience with Master Data Management implementation.
  • Experience supporting research, analytics, or data products used by internal teams and external partners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position own position responsibilities (i.e. use of personal computer).
  • Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.
  • Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.

The starting base salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors.
