The architect will collaborate with application owners, infrastructure teams, security engineers, and vendors to deliver resilient, cost-optimized solutions that support teaching, learning, research, and administrative excellence., Cloud Architecture & IaaS Leadership

  • Implement infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation) for repeatable, auditable deployments.
  • Optimize IaaS/SaaS cost, performance, and reliability using native tools
  • Lead adoption of container orchestration and serverless patterns for custom integrations and AI workloads for various IaaS infrastructure including AWS.

Ellucian Banner SaaS Migration

  • Serve as technical advisor and architecture team leader for the Banner ERP migration to Ellucian SaaS
  • Work with the Integration team to help design and event-driven workflows for real-time synchronization between Banner SaaS, internal, and external systems.

Identity Management

  • Extend our current Identity system as the central IdP for SSO, SCIM provisioning, and MFA across SaaS (ERP, LMS, etc.) and IaaS workloads.
  • Research and expand Identity Workflows, Adaptive MFA, and risk-based authentication policies.
  • Design full suite of Identity Management software solutions, and the workflows between them.

Research Computing & AI Enablement

  • Work with the Architecture team to build scalable HPC and GPU-enabled environments on IaaS cloud sites along with other specialized hosted solutions. Work on designing connectivity, secure access, and workload management
  • Design solutions for sensitive research data using cloud based external tools.
  • Research AI/ML development in and out of AWS.
  • Research Agentic AI solutions to help reduce existing work effort around repeatable tasks

SaaS Integration & Governance

  • Maintain an enterprise integration catalog and API management layer.
  • Enforce SaaS sprawl controls, and work with the IT Security team around access to information on data residency/SOC 2, and other security review items, along with internal and external audit questions.

Security, Compliance & Operations

  • Embed security-by-design using AWS tools like GuardDuty, Security Hub, Config, and IAM policies aligned with CIS benchmarks along with other IaaS environment tools where appropriate. Apply those tools to external systems, on-prem servers, and SaaS solutions
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA (where applicable), and NIST 800-171 for CUI in research contracts.
  • Work with the Systems team to automate patch management, vulnerability scanning, and configuration drift detection.
