Job description

  • Design and build custom API integrations between internal systems and customer platforms
  • Own and maintain our server infrastructure within a local data centre - hardware, capacity, resilience, and day-to-day health
  • Plan and roll out new servers and services, from initial build through to production, including at customer premises and in data centres
  • Deploy and configure Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint, Teams, Exchange Online, and Azure
  • Lead complex projects including Microsoft 365 migrations, Microsoft Fabric implementations, and VoIP platform migrations
  • Install and configure firewalls and networks, including VPN tunnels, VLANs, and managed switches
  • Configure and manage Enterprise backup and recovery solutions (e.g. Veeam)
  • Act as the senior escalation point (3rd line) for onsite work when issues go beyond standard support
  • Provide networking expertise across switching, routing, firewalls, and VPNs
  • Take part in an on-call rota for data centre infrastructure issues only
  • Attend meetings with potential new customers to explain our technical capability and help win new business
  • Work closely with the wider team, sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced engineers as they develop

Requirements

We’re looking for an experienced engineer to take ownership of our data centre and lead our biggest technical projects. This is a varied role - covering everything from Microsoft 365 migrations and server deployments to network and firewall configuration. You’ll also be the technical voice in the room when we’re pitching our services to new customers, as well as the person who then goes and delivers the work.

You’ll be working within a small, close-knit team where everyone pitches in. This suits someone who’s technically strong but also enjoys talking to people, explaining things in plain English, and helping close a deal - not just someone who wants to stay heads-down in the server room., * Experience in building and maintaining APIs (any modern language/framework)

  • Hands-on data centre experience - hardware, virtualisation, storage, backups
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Server operating systems
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory installation and configuration
  • Strong knowledge of wired and wireless networking, including VPN tunnels, VLANs, managed switches, and firewalls
  • Experience deploying and configuring Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint, Teams, Exchange Online, Azure)
  • Experience configuring and managing Enterprise backup and recovery solutions (e.g. Veeam)
  • 3rd line support experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric (or strong Microsoft Azure background)
  • VoIP experience
  • Comfortable presenting technical capability to non-technical customers in plain English
  • Calm under pressure
  • Full UK driving licence and own car
  • A team player who’s happy sharing knowledge as well as picking it up from others

Desirable

  • Microsoft certification or equivalent qualification
  • Experience supporting data centre environments
  • Experience configuring and supporting a Microsoft Hyper-V environment
  • Experience planning and managing IT projects, * building or maintaining APIs: 1 year (preferred)
  • 3rd line / senior infrastructure support: 3 years (required)
  • data centre environments: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • full UK driving licence (required)
