Job description

This is a rare opportunity to join as a founding engineer, helping shape the architecture, culture, and direction of a new team from day one. AI will sit at the core of both our product and how we build it.

Why This Role Is Different

  • High ownership and influence over architecture and technical direction
  • Direct collaboration with the Managing Director
  • Founding role in a brand-new technology hub
  • Direct impact on safety in a high-risk, real-world industry
  • Suggestions from all employees are considered valuable
  • Culture of individuality: every employee brings their unique skills to the table

The Role

As a Full Stack Developer, you’ll play a key role in building the next generation of Procheck’s platform, designed to scale across multiple sites, organisations, and users.

You will:

  • Rebuild the core platform into a scalable, multi-tenant system supporting large workforces across high-risk environments
  • Build a mobile-first inspection platform used directly by operatives on-site
  • Develop workflows for contractor safety and access control, including credential verification and permit-to-work systems
  • Enable natural language querying of compliance data and learning materials
  • Use AI tools actively in development (code generation, testing, documentation, architecture support)
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, data modelling, and API design
  • Work directly with real users, including site managers, weighbridge operators, and quarry drivers, AI is central to our product and development approach. We operate under a defined AI ethics framework focused on:
  • Safety-first design
  • Human oversight
  • Data privacy and protection
  • Transparency and auditability
  • Regulatory accuracy

You’ll contribute not just to AI features, but to how we build them responsibly.

Hiring Process

  • Initial call (30 minutes)
  • Take-home task
  • Final interview: candidate explains their take-home task, with the Managing Director and one member of the development team

Requirements

You are a strong full stack developer with solid fundamentals and a genuine interest in how AI is changing software development.

You’re comfortable working with autonomy, thrive in solving real-world problems, and want to be part of building something meaningful from the ground up.

Characteristics we look for:

· Comfort making complex architectural decisions in a highly collaborative environment, designing clean, scalable data models

· Ability to ramp up quickly in a newly formed team and take initiative early. Self-management expected

· A continuous improvement mindset: a quick learner who stays positive under pressure

· Good judgement about what to hand off to AI agents and what deserves full attention

· Strong time management and prioritisation. Able to make and explain trade-offs to deliver on time

· Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Essential Skills & Experience

· Python backend development

· RESTful API design, with a strong grasp of authentication and authorisation

· PostgreSQL or similar relational database experience

· TypeScript, React, and Next.js frontend development

· Unit and integration testing

· Version control with Git

Desirable Experience

· Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS architecture

· Cloud experience, ideally AWS

· Experience in compliance, safety, or regulated industries

· Docker/containerised deployments

· Understanding of UK GDPR and data protection principles

· Experience building mobile or progressive web applications

· Experience integrating AI / LLM APIs into applications

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive salary (depending on experience)
  • Founding role with real ownership and influence
  • Direct involvement in architecture, AI strategy and product direction
  • Opportunity to work on meaningful, safety-critical software
  • A technically challenging environment spanning all areas of the stack
  • A collaborative, forward-thinking team culture
