Job description

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day accuracy and organization of all materials moving through Cider Press Woodworks - lumber, sheet goods, hardware, finishes, adhesives, and consumables - across both custom millwork and furniture production. Working under the direction of the Production Manager, this role keeps inventory records accurate in our ERP platform (Innergy), keeps storage areas organized, and ensures materials are received, transacted, and staged so production is never waiting on material. This is a hands-on role well suited to someone with strong organizational discipline who wants to grow with a company formalizing its inventory systems; prior management experience is not required., Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Maintain accurate perpetual inventory records for all raw materials, hardware, finishes, and consumables in the ERP system.
  • Perform regular cycle counts; investigate and resolve variances, and report count results to the Production Manager.
  • Monitor stock levels against established min/max levels and reorder points; flag low stock before it causes production stoppages.
  • Maintain physical organization of inventory storage areas lumber racks, sheet goods storage, hardware room including labeling, location assignments, and FIFO rotation where applicable.
  • Track material waste, shrinkage, and obsolescence; flag slow-moving and dead stock to leadership for disposition.

ERP & Data Management

  • Maintain inventory data within Innergy (or successor ERP): item master records, units of measure, costs, vendors, and material categories.
  • Support ERP implementation and ongoing optimization by keeping material data clean and consistent and following documented inventory workflows.
  • Transact material issues, receipts, and adjustments in the ERP in real time so job costing reflects actual consumption.
  • Support Accounting with month-end reconciliation and physical inventory counts.

Receiving & Material Flow

  • Perform receiving: verify quantities and quality against purchase orders, resolve discrepancies with vendors, and process receipts promptly in the ERP.
  • Stage and kit materials for production jobs so materials arrive at workstations complete and on schedule.
  • Communicate with Project Management and Production scheduling on upcoming material needs for the job pipeline.

Purchasing Coordination

  • Assist purchasing with replenishment orders by reporting stock levels, lead-time issues, and vendor discrepancies.
  • Keep vendor and pricing data current in the ERP; flag cost increases to leadership.

Continuous Improvement & Safety

  • Follow and help improve inventory SOPs; model good material transaction discipline for shop personnel.
  • Maintain safe, clean, organized storage areas in compliance with company safety policies and OSHA requirements, including safe handling and storage of finishes and flammables.

Requirements

Required

  • 1-2 years of inventory, warehouse, materials handling, or stockroom experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. No prior management experience required.
  • Hands-on experience working in an ERP, MRP, or inventory management system for transactions and item data (e.g., Innergy, Epicor, NetSuite, JobBOSS, Global Shop, or similar).
  • Experience performing cycle counts or physical inventories and resolving discrepancies.
  • Working Excel skills; comfortable with basic data entry, cleanup, and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational discipline and attention to detail; able to follow process consistently and suggest improvements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with shop floor, project management, and accounting teams.

Preferred

  • Experience with Innergy ERP specifically, or another millwork/woodworking industry ERP.
  • Background in custom millwork, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, or another job-shop / engineer-to-order environment.
  • Familiarity with lumber, sheet goods, veneers, hardware, and finishing materials, including units of measure common to the trade (board feet, square feet, sheets).
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Active woodworking manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, and moving equipment; PPE required in designated areas.
  • Regularly required to walk the shop floor, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of heavier materials with assistance or equipment.
  • Split between office/computer work and hands-on time in storage and production areas.
