Job description

This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day data centre operations, ensuring the reliability and integrity of critical infrastructure and delivering a high standard of service to our customers.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will support hardware deployments, moves, changes, audits and break/fix activities across a busy data centre campus.

Site Engineers work on 10-hour rotating shifts that provide services from 07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday at Welwyn Garden City (i.e., wk. 1 - 07:00 -17:00; wk. 2 09:00 -19:00)

Occasional weekend and evening overtime support requirements will be required, though this is generally planned in advance. Optional weekend overtime is also often available with other Onnec teams, such as Moves and Changes, at other London facilities.

Responsibilities of our Data Centre Engineer will include:

  • Perform copper and fibre patching activities within the data centre environment.
  • Support hardware refresh programmes, installations, decommissions and relocations.
  • Carry out physical audits and rack checks.
  • Respond to break/fix incidents and provide hands-on support.
  • Install and maintain structured cabling infrastructure when required.
  • Use ServiceNow to manage incidents, requests and workflow activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of completed work.
  • Support multiple customer environments across Welwyn Garden City, London and Romford as required.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota when needed

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a Data Centre, IT Infrastructure or Managed Services environment.
  • Strong understanding of copper and fibre network cabling.
  • Experience supporting hardware installations, moves, adds and changes (MACs).
  • Familiarity with incident management and ticketing systems.
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow is essential.
  • Experience using imVision or similar data centre infrastructure management tools would be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Full UK driving licence desirable due to site location.
