Job description

Bowhead seeks a Switch Technician with a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification to support the Base Telecommunications System (BTS) contract at Travis Air Force Base, California. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the newly installed Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) supporting David Grant Medical Center and the surrounding hospital campus. This is a unique opportunity to join the team during the deployment of a new Cisco Unified Communications solution. Qualified candidates hired early in the contract will have the opportunity to participate in the installation, configuration, testing, and transition of the new CUCM environment before assuming long-term operations and maintenance responsibilities. Responsibilities: Essential functions will include:

  • Administer, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and associated Unified Communications infrastructure.
  • Support installation, configuration, migration, testing, and cutover activities for the hospital’s new Cisco Unified Communications platform.
  • Configure Cisco IP telephones, voice gateways, Unity, virtual servers, network switches, UPS systems, and related voice infrastructure.
  • Perform adds, moves, changes, and deletions (MACDs) for voice services.
  • Install software upgrades, security patches, certificates, and licensing while coordinating implementation with Government personnel.
  • Maintain system backups, configuration documentation, and accurate database records.
  • Troubleshoot voice, VoIP, gateway, server, and network issues to restore critical communications services.
  • Support E-911 services, voice mail administration, and Unified Communications applications.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance and outages while minimizing operational impact.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance inspections, system health checks, and performance monitoring.
  • Maintain compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and applicable Cisco best practices.
  • Support 24/7 emergency restoration efforts as required for mission-critical telecommunications systems.
  • Interface professionally with Government personnel, vendors, and other technical teams to support ongoing operations and future modernization efforts.

Requirements

  • Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is a plus but not required.
  • Relevant military training or technical certifications may be substituted for formal education.
  • Years of experience
  • 3+ years of experience supporting Cisco Unified Communications (CUCM) and enterprise VoIP environments.
  • Experience administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM).
  • Experience with Cisco IP phones, voice gateways, Unity Connection, and supporting voice infrastructure.
  • Experience performing software upgrades, patch management, licensing, and system backups.
  • Experience troubleshooting Layer 2/Layer 3 network connectivity related to VoIP services.
  • Required skills or certifications
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification (required).
  • DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification (Security+).
  • Experience administering Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM).
  • Experience supporting Cisco VoIP and Unified Communications environments.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco voice gateways, Unity, UCS servers, virtual environments, and IP telephony.
  • Experience performing software upgrades, patch management, certificate management, and licensing.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, QoS, and voice over IP.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex voice and network issues in a mission-critical environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Government security credentials.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or Federal telecommunications systems.
  • Experience with VMware, Cisco UCS, Cisco Unity Connection, Local Session Controllers, and E-911 systems.
  • Experience with STIG compliance, PKI certificates, and Cisco Smart Licensing.
  • Previous experience supporting hospital or healthcare communications environments.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check. Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
