Job description

Our Charlotte enterprise systems team is hiring a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to manage, scale, and secure our multi-region AWS and Azure cloud environment. Positioning yourself between core system platform architecture and DevOps pipelines, you will be responsible for maintaining high availability across virtual networks, automating cloud provisioning through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and mitigating service outages across our core data infrastructure.

Core Technical Duties

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain multi-tier AWS infrastructure services (EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, IAM) and core Azure workloads using Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Build and manage network transit architectures, including VPC peering, AWS Direct Connect, transit gateways, network firewalls, and subnets.
  • Write reusable code scripts in Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate manual system operational workflows and resource maintenance.
  • Maintain automated CI/CD deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) to ensure reliable environment builds and application delivery.
  • Implement cloud security benchmarks (CIS, SOC 2), managing role-based access controls (RBAC), KMS keys, and network security groups following least-privilege models.
  • Establish monitoring telemetry, log aggregation, and metric alerting using Datadog, Prometheus, and CloudWatch to resolve system performance bottlenecks.
  • Participate in a tiered on-call escalation rotation to troubleshoot high-priority infrastructure incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and maintain operational runbooks.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of dedicated hands-on experience designing, provisioning, and supporting production public cloud environments (AWS or Azure).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for state management, modular design, and environment drift mitigation.
  • Deep operating system knowledge of Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration, system logging, and kernel tuning.
  • Solid background in networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, BGP routing, DNS management, IP subnets, and load balancing (ALB/NLB).
  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservice orchestration frameworks.
  • Associate or professional cloud certification is preferred (AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Solutions Architect, or Azure Administrator Associate).
  • Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
