Job description

The Curriculum and Job Developer is a new position within our employment services team. Reporting to the Citywide Workforce Program Director, the Curriculum and Job Developer is key to our workforce development strategy and is responsible for developing bridge-type training programs and building a portfolio of employers and training providers to assist clients in securing employment or advancing in their careers.

The Curriculum and Job Developer will focus on building relationships in four target sectors: life sciences, fashion, technology, and construction. They will conduct research and analyze labor market data and trends to design comprehensive career development plans split into tracks for the benefit of clients with different levels of expertise and knowledge in the target industry. The Curriculum and Job Developer will endeavor to create paid internship opportunities and advocate with employers to fund training programs and/or cover the cost of stipends.

This is a fast-paced position ideal for an individual with drive, enthusiasm, strong work ethic, strong analytical and communications skills, and good at collaborating and multitasking within an environment of multiple deadlines. Also needed are a good sense of humor and a strong desire to create lasting, meaningful change in public housing neighborhoods.

Responsibilities:

  • Building a curriculum of skills needed to secure employment in our target industries: life sciences, fashion, construction, and technology.
  • Collaborating with the rest of the employment services team to assess and identify the skills gaps preventing clients from entering or advancing in our target industries.
  • Developing step-by-step career development model plans that shall include some or more of the following components: exploration, assessment, soft skills training, college programs, vocational training, and internships.
  • Establishing partnerships with employers and understanding their present and future workforce needs to create a portfolio of sustainable job opportunities.
  • Leveraging relationships with employers to advocate for industry-wide changes resulting in better work conditions (e.g. safety, compensation, benefits, etc.) and more access to high paying jobs via paid internships or employer-funded training programs.
  • Managing relationships with training providers, educational institutions and other key career pathways partners.
  • Building relationships with unions and apprenticeship programs.
  • Designing training and internship programs funded by employers.
  • Collaborating with the rest of the employment services team to guide clients through the career pathways plan resulting in employment or career advancement.
  • Organizing and participating in job recruitment events, career fairs, and resource fairs.
  • Keeping updated in labor market data and trends, and in best practices in education, training and course design.
  • Supporting community events and representing Urban Upbound at convenings and other educational or networking events.
  • Collaborating with the Development team to expand and cultivate relationships with employers that are or can become funding sources.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Citywide Workforce Program Director or the Senior Director of Programs.

Requirements

  • BS in Education, Psychology, Communications or a related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in workforce development or in education.
  • Experience in sales and marketing preferred.
  • Experience in public policy or academic research is a plus.
  • Experience in one or more of the four target industries is a big plus.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work remotely and to commute to the various Urban Upbound sites. Will need to work the occasional evening or weekend to attend community events.
  • Outcomes-driven, with strong time management, organizational and planning skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and produce high quality work in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with capacity to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Experience with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Open to learning new skills and taking on additional responsibilities.
  • Strong commitment to the Urban Upbound mission and desire to do meaningful work with a measurable impact.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaker is a plus. Other languages are welcomed.
