Job description

The Urban League of Rochester seeks a Job Developer/Apprenticeship Coordinator for Workforce Development programs. Programs provide TASC preparation, classroom and hands-on construction training, personal development activities, and job placement assistance to disadvantaged out-of-school youth ages 18 to 24.4, * Provide individualized academic and vocational counseling and guide participants in developing individualized career pathways.

  • Recruit participants that have a strong interest in apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Provide pathways for direct placement into apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Create and develop effective relationships with employers and apprenticeship programs.
  • Facilitate work readiness training with participants.
  • Organize employer advisory group meetings.
  • Develop job positions in the private sector suited to applicants’ needs.
  • Assess participants’ skill levels and provide counseling to assist in realistic employment plans commensurate with skill levels and experience.
  • Secure accurate job descriptions for job openings and match individuals’ skills and qualifications to the job.
  • Schedule employment interviews for participants.
  • Conduct follow-up on placements to determine participants’ progress and job retention.
  • Provide follow-up counseling when requested by either employer or participant after job placement.
  • Maintain necessary records to ensure effective referral and placement.
  • Complete reports that track progress.
  • Attend Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, public administration, or related social science field preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in a related area, including administrative and employment background, preferred. Ability to relate to, communicate with, and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relating to such population.
  • Ability to relate well with others, be a team player with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Needs to be assertive and communicate effectively with trainees and company personnel.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Must be able to tolerate and handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Knowledge of available community resources is a plus
