Job description

The Workstation Support Technician will play a critical role in maintaining and supporting computer workstations and peripheral equipment. You will work closely with end users, providing technical assistance, diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the IT environment. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, strong communication skills, a commitment to exceptional customer service, and the ability to address a wide variety of technical challenges.

Key duties include:

  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software on company devices.
  • Deliver prompt and effective technical support to users via in-person, remote, email, or phone communication.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and technical challenges ranging from routine issues to complex problems.
  • Assist with setting up and configuring new workstations, including user accounts, email setup, and required applications.
  • Prioritize support requests by urgency and impact on business operations.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity and printer-related concerns.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of hardware inventory.
  • Educate end users on basic troubleshooting and best practices to help prevent recurring issues.
  • Assist with developing documentation and user guides for common technical procedures.
  • Document user-reported issues, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions within a ticket tracking system.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advances in workstation technology.
  • May be involved with audio-visual systems, ruggedized laptops, kiosks, and other specialized equipment as required.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned within the workstation support function.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a workstation support or similar IT support role.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving technical issues with Windows operating systems, hardware, software, and networks.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting productivity suites (e.g., Microsoft Office), networked printers, and connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with DNS, Active Directory, VPN, and basic principles of enterprise IT environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written), with an ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Excellent customer service aptitude, both for face-to-face and phone-based support.
  • Ability to stay organized, adapt to shifting priorities, and manage multiple support requests simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and reliability under pressure.
  • Attention to detail in documentation, ticket tracking, and asset/inventory management.
  • Comfort and professionalism in both independent and team-based work.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license required for travel between locations (company vehicle provided when necessary).
  • Relevant IT certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician are a plus.
  • Strong soft skills - ability to integrate into a team, empathy, patience, adaptability, and the capability to clearly translate complex concepts for end users., * High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • 2 or more years of relevant technical support experience required.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 70 pounds), and perform tasks involving bending, kneeling, and reaching in tight spaces as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to drive to various company locations and departments as job duties require.
  • Availability to provide occasional after-hours or weekend support for critical issues or scheduled maintenance.
