Job description
This position will be part of the Microsoft 365 Service Operations group of the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) Service Delivery division. Primary duties of this position will be to serve as a lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) and product specialist for the Microsoft 365 (M365) service within NCDIT and other Executive agencies. The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and providing advanced support for the services deployed on M365 platforms by NCDIT. This includes understanding the M365 roadmap and finding solutions to align with the new features or technologies implemented by Microsoft within the North Carolina State policies and security guidelines. Additionally, this position will provide consulting to other State M365 Tenants in the area of security and configuration baselines., * Serve as the highest level of support in a technical support model responsible for handling the most difficult or advanced problems.

Perform high level troubleshooting of very technical and complex M365 issues.

Act as a consultant to management in the review of policies, operations, controls, system development, and data communications and promote standardization across all implementations to lower the Total Cost of Ownership of the Microsoft 365 Suite to the state.

Participate on Project Teams focusing on the Microsoft365 infrastructure systems to ensure information technology information issues are addressed.

Implement new releases of service components into the operational environment following well-defined controlled processes of change, configuration and release management.

Develop implementation and deployment plans and coordinate with agencies before and during the execution of the project activity.

Ensure application availability, correct configurations and provide team oversight of Microsoft 365 Suite.
About the Division: The NCDIT M365 team’s mission is to provide enterprise-wide communication and collaboration services that improve the productivity and efficiency for the workforce in State government and other authorized government and public-sector entities. The team offers the Microsoft 365 Suite of Services which includes email, email archiving, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol relays and related services to North Carolina state and local governments, with our core clientele being state Executive Branch agencies. More than 65,000 public servants rely on enterprise-wide communication services, and we’re preparing for more to come. NCDIT Enterprise Collaboration Services makes ongoing improvements to keep up with our customers’ business and operational needs.
Requirements

Experience in designing, implementing, and supporting M365 services aligned with configuration standards, and roadmap alignment with Microsoft technologies

Demonstrated experience independently handling complex M365 issues, performing deep technical diagnostics, and executing controlled change, configuration, and release management processes

Experience coordinating and overseeing Microsoft 365 deployments across agencies while ensuring accurate configuration, billing fidelity, and strong security through comprehensive assessments, secure baselines, policy compliance, and tenant security guidance, Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development, Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development, High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and eight years of experience in business application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Benefits & conditions
Salary range: $87,617 - $131,426
The position is designated Statutory Exempt (EHRA) and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act.
This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency’s remote work program but does require weekly onsite work. Any telework will be under the conditions of the state Teleworking Program Policy and the employer may end any teleworking arrangement at any time in the employer’s sole discretion.
