Job description
The MDC Support Technician provides day-to-day onsite and field technical support for the client’s law enforcement vehicle technology.
This role supports the availability and reliability of in-vehicle mobile data computer (MDC) systems, ruggedized computing devices, docking stations, mobile connectivity equipment, mobile printers, camera cabling, adapters, and other approved fleet technology. The technician performs Tier 1 diagnostics, troubleshooting, equipment replacement, hot swaps, repair coordination, documentation, and return-to-service validation.
Key Duties
- Provide onsite and field technical support for law enforcement vehicles across multiple fleet locations
- Perform Tier 1 diagnostics, troubleshooting, equipment replacement, hot swaps, and repair coordination
- Support rugged compute devices, MDCs, docking stations, cellular networking equipment, SIM cards, camera cabling, Bluetooth adapters, and mobile printers
- Perform fault isolation, component testing, configuration verification, and replacement of failed field-replaceable units
- Update, patch, test, and validate devices before returning them to service
- Coordinate with the Lead when issues require escalation, advanced diagnostics, or depot repair
- Maintain accurate repair lifecycle records: pickup, diagnostic findings, serial numbers, parts used, warranty status, testing, and closure notes
- Use the designated ticketing system to document incidents, troubleshooting steps, and resolution notes
- Communicate professionally with client personnel, fleet stakeholders, and GTS leadership
- Support monthly scheduled visits, onsite support hours, and surge coverage as directed
- Adhere to confidentiality, safety, CJIS, and GTS quality requirements
Requirements
Background Requirement: Must successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check upon hire.
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, ongoing basis without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future., * Strong troubleshooting skills for rugged mobile computing, in-vehicle technology, and Windows-based endpoints
- Ability to diagnose hardware, cabling, docking, mobile printer, SIM, and cellular router issues in field environments
- Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office 365, endpoint configuration, and patching
- Understanding of TCP/IP, cellular connectivity, and basic fault isolation
- Strong documentation discipline: ticket updates, repair notes, test results, serial number tracking
- Customer-focused communication with law enforcement users and fleet personnel
- Ability to work independently in the field and follow escalation procedures through to closure, * A+ certification or equivalent training and experience preferred
- 2+ years of rugged device, MDC, public safety technology, or field support experience preferred
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of technical training and work experience preferred
- 3+ years of full-time experience supporting networked, endpoint, or end-user devices preferred
Physical Requirements
- Able to travel between customer locations, fleet locations, and GTS facilities as assigned
- Able to work in and around vehicles, fleet shops, and field environments
- Able to climb, bend, kneel, reach overhead, or crawl into confined spaces safely
- Able to operate basic hand and electrical tools
- Able to differentiate color coding of cables and components
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds at times, * Do you have hands-on field troubleshooting experience with rugged devices, laptops, or in-vehicle technology?
- Have you worked with brands like Panasonic Toughbook, Getac, or Dell Rugged, or similar mobile computing hardware?
Experience:
- Windows endpoint support, patching, and Microsoft Office 365: 1 year (Required)
