employment, benefits, and recovery resources. Saint John’s Hospice provides life-sustaining services to thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness, serving more than 2,000 meals each week, offering approximately 160 showers weekly, maintaining mail services for more than 1,700 individuals, and delivering comprehensive case management and supportive services that help guests secure permanent housing and improve their overall well-being. Through strong partnerships with volunteers, donors, foundations, healthcare providers, and community organizations, SJH continues to provide pathways out of homelessness while strengthening the health and stability of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable residents. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA Coordinator will strengthen St. John’s Hospice’s capacity by enhancing volunteer engagement, donor stewardship, and community partnerships. The VISTA will recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for the meal program while building relationships with schools, faith communities, corporations, and civic organizations to expand volunteer involvement. Responsibilities include maintaining volunteer records, improving reporting systems, and supporting fundraising through donor visits, special events, annual appeals, and newsletters. The VISTA will also develop and administer an annual survey of residents and Day Services guests, collect feedback from staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, and analyze data to establish baseline measures, identify needs, and guide sustainable capacity-building strategies that strengthen services for people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Philadelphia.
