Job description

Seeking an experienced AS400 Production Support Engineer to provide operational support for business-critical applications. The role involves job monitoring, production incident resolution, job restarts, batch support, troubleshooting, and ensuring stable day-to-day operations while meeting SLA commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor AS400 (IBM i) production environment, batch jobs, schedulers, and system health.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, restart, and recover failed batch jobs to meet SLA commitments.
  • Resolve production incidents related to batch failures, application issues, infrastructure alerts, and system availability.
  • Perform user account administration, password resets, access provisioning.
  • Monitor alerts from Jobman, Logmon, IBM Navigator, and other operational tools.
  • Execute daily, weekly, month-end, and year-end batch processing activities.
  • Perform backup monitoring, recovery support, spool file management.
  • Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and business teams for incident resolution and problem management.
  • Execute runbooks, document fixes, perform root cause analysis, and recommend process improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge articles and ensure compliance with ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting IBM i (AS400) production environments.
  • Knowledge of batch scheduling, job monitoring, job restarts, CL commands, DB2/400, message queues, and spool files.
  • Experience with ITSM tools and production incident management.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in AS400 / IBM i production support.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM i operating system and batch operations.
  • Experience with job monitoring, job scheduling, and production support activities.
  • Good understanding of CL commands, job logs, spool files, message queues, and work management.
  • Knowledge of DB2/400 and SQL for basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience with incidents, problem, and change management processes.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
