Job description

DPC Technology is looking for a hands-on Field Installation Technician to join our Service & Support team. This role is mostly physical, on-site work: you’ll be running cable, mounting hardware, racking equipment, and installing new systems at client locations, with some time back at the desk managing tickets and documentation. You’ll be the person clients see on-site making sure the install is done right, tested, and working before you leave.

This is a great fit for someone with a construction, carpentry, electrical, low-voltage, AV, or field-service background who is comfortable working with tools, climbing ladders, running cable through walls and ceilings, and troubleshooting on the spot. No prior IT experience required. Many of our best techs came from the trades and learned the networking/AV side on the job.

What You’ll Do

  • Run and terminate structured cabling (Cat5e/6, fiber, coax) through walls, ceilings, attics, and crawlspaces
  • Mount, rack, and physically install hardware, including servers, switches, access points, cameras, displays, and related equipment
  • Set up and configure new systems, software, and hardware on-site according to project scope
  • Test and verify installed systems to confirm functionality, integration, and performance before sign-off
  • Troubleshoot deployment issues in the field and resolve them on the spot
  • Maintain clear documentation, including ticket notes, system configurations, and troubleshooting guides
  • Keep clients informed on progress, delays, or scope changes during the install
  • Help coordinate project delivery to meet quality standards, timelines, and budget
  • Track time, expenses, and work activities in ConnectWise; complete ConnectWise University training, Strong performers with strong client feedback may progress into a Project Manager role.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Project client satisfaction score of 98% or higher
  • 90% or more of projects delivered at or under budget
  • A defect rate averaging no more than 1 per 10 projects

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-4 years of hands-on experience in low-voltage cabling, AV/network installation, electrical, carpentry, or general construction
  • Background as a carpenter, construction tradesperson, electrician’s helper, or similar physical trade is a strong plus; we can train the IT/network side
  • Experience with structured cabling (pre-wiring, retrofitting, terminating data cable), PoE devices (access points, cameras, doorbells), or IoT device installation is a plus
  • Comfortable with the physical demands of the job: working on ladders, in attics/crawlspaces, and on active job sites; lifting/carrying equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license, required to drive a company fleet vehicle to client sites; on the rare occasion a fleet vehicle isn’t available, use of a personal vehicle may be needed
  • No degree required. Relevant trade certifications are a strong plus (CompTIA A+, CEDIA Cabling & Infrastructure Technician, Snap One PCNA, Network+, or similar); happy to support you in earning these
  • Detail-oriented with a habit of documenting work clearly, including notes and photos
  • Strong customer service skills, comfortable representing DPC directly to clients on-site
  • Clear written and verbal communication for documentation and client updates
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to manage your own schedule across multiple job sites

Nice to Have

  • Experience leading or managing a small team or crew
  • Familiarity with Active Directory domains, Windows Server, or general networking concepts
