Job description
Kaimetrix is seeking a highly skilled GFT System Administrator Lead to provide enterpriselevel systems administration leadership, configuration management oversight, and technical direction for the Games for Training (GFT) program under the Program Executive Officer for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI).
The GFT System Administrator Lead will ensure the secure, stable, and efficient operation of all GFT lab systems, fielded site environments, and supporting infrastructure. This position requires a balanced blend of technical expertise, team leadership, configuration management ownership, and proactive security compliance to meet mission requirements and Department of Defense (DoD) standards.
What you’ll do
This position is ideal for a senior IT professional with systems administration experience who excels in technical leadership, enterprise configuration management, and mission critical system sustainment. The selected candidate will lead the GFT System Administration team, oversee all lab and site operations, and play a key role in planning and executing modernization efforts while ensuring systems remain secure and fully operational.
Leadership & Oversight
- Lead the GFT System Administration team and ISSE, providing direction, tasking, mentorship, and technical oversight.
- Serve as the primary authority for configuration baselines, system standards, and enterprisewide technical decisions supporting GFT environments.
- Coordinate with Engineering, IA, Logistics, and the APM to align technical execution with program requirements, travel planning, and material budget constraints., * Oversee daytoday administration of GFT Windows Server environments, including configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of Active Directory (AD), AD Sites and Services, DHCP, DNS, WSUS, MDT, and network shares supporting multiple virtual and physical environments.
- Maintain and enforce standardized system images, gold masters, and configuration baselines across the GFT lab and all fielded sites.
- Support installation, configuration, and updates of GFT software, including VBS components and mission specific training applications.
Security Compliance & Vulnerability Management
- Implement and maintain DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to ensure system configurations comply with FISMA and Risk Management Framework (RMF) audit standards.
- Conduct and oversee routine vulnerability management activities, including weekly ACAS scans, quarterly STIG reviews, audit log analysis, and patch management cycles to maintain system security and integrity.
- Coordinate with Information Assurance (IA) teams to address identified security gaps and support remediation efforts and ATO sustainment.
Site Support & Training
- Oversee technical support and sustainment activities for all GFT fielded sites, ensuring timely troubleshooting, configuration updates, and system health monitoring.
- Provide guidance and training to site personnel and junior administrators to strengthen technical capabilities and ensure consistent system operation across the enterprise.
Documentation & Process Development
- Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, support activities, and security compliance efforts to facilitate audits and knowledge sharing within the GFT team.
- Develop and enhance standard operating procedures (SOPs) for system administration, site support, and security processes.
- Participate in training and knowledge transfer to elevate the team’s technical proficiency and operational readiness.
Modernization & Strategic Planning
- Lead modernization planning and execution for GFT capabilities, including hardware refresh cycles, VBS4 migration, and integration of new training technologies.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate new solutions, refine requirements, and support long-term capability development.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience administering Windows Server environments in a DoD or federal setting, including virtualization technologies and enterprise system management.
- Proven track record leading technical teams and overseeing configuration management, system sustainment, and enterpriselevel IT operations.
- Deep knowledge of DoD STIGs, FISMA, RMF, ACAS vulnerability scanning, and general cybersecurity best practices preferred.
- Familiarity with network protocols, basic networking troubleshooting, and configuration of network services.
- Experience with VBS3/VBS4 or simulation based training systems is a plus.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with users, stakeholders, and leadership at all levels.
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Security+ (IATII) certification (or IATII equivalent) required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an agency security clearance.
