job summary: Randstad is seeking a Senior Data Security Engineer (Microsoft Purview) to join a high-visibility enterprise security team with our premier client in Washington, D.C. In this hands-on technical lead role, you will design, deploy, and govern end-to-end data protection, compliance, and AI governance capabilities across M365, Azure, endpoints, and multi-cloud environments. Partnering closely with Security Operations, Legal, Privacy, and Executive Risk stakeholders, you will translate complex regulatory requirements into scalable technical controls, drive Zero Trust strategy, and safeguard sensitive assets-including emerging M365 Copilot and AI-enabled workloads-within a highly regulated environment.

responsibilities: Platform Architecture & Engineering: Design, implement, administer, and optimize enterprise-wide Microsoft Purview solutions, establishing architecture standards, governance models, and health-check operational practices.
Core Purview Management: Serve as the hands-on technical subject matter expert for DLP, Information Protection, Sensitivity Labels, Insider Risk Management, Records Management, DSPM, eDiscovery, Audit, and Compliance Manager.
AI & Cloud Governance: Lead data protection initiatives for M365 Copilot and AI workloads, expanding controls across Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, endpoints, and multi-cloud environments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Legal, Privacy, Compliance, and Cloud Engineering teams to map regulatory mandates into operational security controls.
Automation & Integration: Streamline operations using PowerShell automation, integrate Purview with Defender XDR and Sentinel, and deliver security posture reporting via Power BI.
qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience; 5+ years in information security engineering and 3+ years of hands-on expertise with Microsoft Purview.
Core Technical Expertise: Proven track record deploying Purview DLP, Sensitivity Labels, Sensitive Information Types (SITs), Exact Data Match (EDM), Trainable Classifiers, and Insider Risk controls.
Ecosystem Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Intune, and deep proficiency in PowerShell for administration and automation.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of structured change control, deployment methodologies, and operational governance in compliance-driven environments (e.g., GDPR, NIST, ISO 27001).
Communication & Analysis: Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and stakeholder engagement skills to lead enterprise security initiatives.
