Job description

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Recruitment Specialist is an ambassador for FLCC, serving as a contact for prospective students and their families and as an expert in the delivery of enrollment services. The person in this position will work with prospective students for the following degree and certificate academic programs: Nursing, EMT-Paramedic, Culinary Arts, and Criminal Justice., 1. Serve as an energetic, upbeat representative for Finger Lakes Community College at college fairs, high school visits, and in a variety of other on- and off- campus recruitment and community events. To serve in this role, s/he must maintain a broad knowledge base about all facets of FLCC to effectively communicate the benefits and features of CTE academic programs, facilities (main campus and campus centers), online course options, support services, athletics, student life, housing opportunities, and basic financial aid information.

  1. Have an understanding of college information in the following areas and be able to articulate and advice prospective students and their family members accordingly: college policies and procedures; admissions policies and procedures; and steps involved in the enrollment process.
  2. Develop expertise in advising underserved and underrepresented students regarding admission to FLCCÂ’s CTE programs. Assist in applicant review and selection processes for these programs. This requires the ability to maintain a thorough knowledge of selective admissions standards for each program and to effectively articulate this information to applicants.
  3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to admissions practices, as well as NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counselors) Statement of Principles of Good Practice for admission professionals. Areas of knowledge include: FERPA regulations, federal and state financial aid processes, NYSED and federal regulations governing the admissions of applicants including, but not limited to, policies related to ex-offenders, non-US citizen, Ability to Benefit guidelines for non-high school graduates, applicants with foreign high school transcripts, applicants graduating from unaccredited high schools, and homeschooled applicants.

Other functions essential to the position include assisting with day-to-day admissions counselor duties within the office, which include:

  1. Responding to in-person, e-mail, and phone inquiries.
  2. Review and interpret all aspects of high school transcripts and test scores to insure that applicants have met high school graduation requirements; proficiency at navigating and inputting data into applicant and prospective student files within the Colleague database and OnBase document imaging software.
  3. Assisting to cover Admissions Office front desk or phone line or with data entry projects involving prospect and applicant information on occasion (as needed).

Requirements

Educational Background : BachelorÂ’s degree preferred., * A minimum of one year experience required in college admissions counseling, college academic support, or a counseling setting with a focus on providing assistance to college bound students.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with preferred experience at using student information systems (e.g. Ellucian Colleague, OnBase).
  • Experience leveraging CRM systems with recruitment, Slate Technolutions preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required including effective sales management and customer relations skills, public speaking, listening skills, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to pay attention to detail, to use effective time and task management techniques, and to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to embrace a flexible work schedule with evening and weekend work hours required to cover recruitment activities, extended office hours, and other admissions initiatives. Overnight travel will be required.
  • Valid, clean and current NY State driverÂ’s license required.
