UI/UX front-end developer - Interface and Web Modernisation Programme

We are seeking a Senior UI/UX Front-End Developer who will play a central role in implementing and scaling the user interface architecture for our next-generation web applications. This is a strategic and hands-on role responsible for building high-quality, performant front-end systems and working closely with product and design leadership to translate complex engineering workflows into modern web experiences.

This role offers the opportunity to influence how complex scientific and engineering tools are delivered to thousands of users worldwide. As the modernisation programme progresses, the successful candidate will help establish engineering standards, reusable component frameworks, and scalable front-end practices across our product ecosystem.

While our current direction includes modern web technologies (e.g. development using JavaScript-based frameworks such as React, Electron and related ecosystems), we are intentionally open to candidates who can help guide wider framework and tooling decisions based on best practice, performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

You Will:

Lead the implementation of modern web interfaces for our engineering software platform

Build high-quality, scalable front-end architectures using modern web frameworks

Work closely with product, UX, and backend engineering teams to implement complex workflows in intuitive interfaces

Develop reusable component libraries and scalable UI frameworks across multiple products

Help establish front-end engineering standards, tooling, and best practices

Contribute to architectural decisions around web technologies and frameworks

Mentor junior developers and help grow a front-end engineering capability over time

Support the transition from external delivery partners toward a sustainable in-house front-end development capability

Essential

· Significant experience developing modern web applications using JavaScript frameworks (React or similar)

· Strong understanding of front-end architecture, component-based design, and web application performance

· Experience building scalable front-end systems for complex software products

· Ability to work closely with designers, product owners, and backend engineers to deliver integrated solutions

· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

· Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Desirable

· Experience working with Electron or similar desktop-web hybrid frameworks

· Experience contributing to platform-level UI frameworks or design systems

· Experience developing applications in technically complex domains such as engineering, scientific software, data platforms, or enterprise systems

· Experience mentoring developers or helping establish engineering practices within growing teams
