Job description

Are you a Data Engineer who wants to make a tangible impact on research and drug discovery? Do you enjoy building scalable data solutions while collaborating with scientists and research teams to unlock the value of complex biological data? If so, this is your opportunity to join Novo Nordisk and help shape the future of research data products and platforms in a highly collaborative, international environment., As a Sr Data Engineering Professional, you will play a key role in developing and advancing data pipelines & products that support early research activities. You will work at the intersection of engineering excellence and scientific understanding, helping data scientists & researchers utilise complex datasets more effectively.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Engineer trusted, analysis-ready biological data solutions for computational biologists, statistical genetisists, data scientists, AI/ML engineers in the context of target & biomarker discovery
  • Build and operationalise Omics data products and analytical workflows across transcriptomics, single-cell omics, CRISPR/functional genomics, proteomics and multi-omics datasets
  • Build and maintain Statistical Genetics pipelines, including GWAS ingestion/harmonisation, variant annotation, fine-mapping, colocalsation, Mendelian randomisation, gene burden testing and genetics-driven target prioritisation workflows
  • Assure data quality, reproducibility, traceability and compliance through automated validation, monitoring, lineage, testing, release management and data governance practices
  • Contributing to the development of future-state data platform architecture and engineering best practices within the team

Success in this role means becoming one of the recognised experts for your product area, building strong partnerships across functions, and helping shape a scalable data ecosystem that enables scientific innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related relevant field
  • Significant hands-on experience in data engineering, bioinformatics engineering, statistical genetics engineering, or related fields
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience building and operating production data pipelines for specialised Omics and/or Genetics datasets
  • Proficiency in cloud computing, data/scripting programming languages and workflow orchestration technologies (e.g. Python, R, Bash, SQL, Nextflow, Airflow, Databricks, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in ETL processes, data pipelines, metadata harmonisation, data lifecycle management, data product release processes and operational support
  • Experience operationalising analytical workflows such as differential expression, gene set/pathway enrichment, single-cell analysis, CRISPR screen analytics, GWAS harmonisation, fine-mapping, colocalisation, etc.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in data modelling, scientific metadata design, lineage, quality controls and efficient fit-for-purpose biological database designs
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and scientific audiences

Moreover, you thrive in environments with evolving processes and distributed ownership structures, demonstrating pragmatism, collaboration, and strong problem-solving capabilities., Every day we seek the solutions that defeat serious chronic diseases. To do this, we approach our work with determination, constant curiosity and a commitment to finding better ways forward. For over 100 years, this dedication has driven us to build a company focused on lasting change for long-term health. One where diverse thinking, shared purpose and mutual respect come together to create extraordinary results. When you join us, you’re not just starting a job - you’re becoming part of a story that spans generations.

About the company

You will join Bio Data & AI Engineering within Data Foundations & Engineering (DFE) as part of the larger AI & Digital Innovation (ADI) organisation within R&D at Novo Nordisk, and you will work with talented and dedicated colleagues across the UK, Denmark and US.

ADI’s core mission is to speed up development, improve precision, and strengthen R&D by embedding AI, data science, and data at the heart of drug discovery and development. This includes accelerating the pipeline through computational methods and digital innovation.

By leveraging data and AI, we aim to quickly identify drug candidates, reduce development time and costs, and better serve patients in line with Novo Nordisk’s goals.

Based in our modern King’s Cross office in London, you will work alongside colleagues across Data Engineering, Data Science, AI, and research functions. Together, you will help drive the evolution of data-driven research capabilities across Novo Nordisk., There is, of course, more on offer here than the uniqueness of our culture and the extraordinary results we produce. Being part of a global healthcare company means opportunities to learn and develop are all around us, while our benefits are designed with your career and life stage in mind., At Novo Nordisk, we’re not chasing quick fixes - we’re creating lasting change for long-term health. For over 100 years, we’ve been driven by a single purpose: to defeat serious chronic diseases and help millions of people live healthier lives. This dedication fuels our constant curiosity and inspires us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare. We embrace diverse perspectives, seek out bold ideas, and build partnerships rooted in shared purpose. Together, we’re making healthcare more accessible, treating and preventing diseases, and pioneering solutions that create change spanning generations. When you join us, you become part of something bigger - a legacy of impact that reaches far beyond today.
