Job description
- Serve as the primary architecture and design SME for multi-factor authentication (MFA) within the digital fraud prevention domain, ensuring alignment with Citi’s risk appetite and authentication strategies.
- Partner with Fraud Policy, Fraud Requirements, and Fraud Analytics teams to develop and maintain settings that support risk-based authentication, reduce fraud losses, and minimize customer impact.
- Analyze fraud patterns across digital channels, contribute to investigation and response strategies, and ensure rule design adapts to emerging fraud threats.
- Act as technical subject matter expert for authentication journeys, supporting stakeholders across Fraud Operations, Technology, and Business teams in understanding orchestration flows, decision outcomes, and data attributes influencing risk decisions.
- Oversee the design and post-implementation validation of MFA rule changes, ensuring changes meet fraud interdiction goals while avoiding unintended impacts to customer access or operational volumes. Stated goals.
- Lead enhancements in fraud detection and error monitoring dashboards, with a focus on automating API health monitoring and surfacing real-time actionable alerts for investigation and resolution.
- Support strategic fraud prevention initiatives by advising on technical feasibility, coordinating with business/CISO/tech partners, and ensuring consistent policy execution across platforms.
- Champion cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing by developing backups, facilitating structured training on MFA architecture, and mentoring team members on fraud risk frameworks and investigation support.
- Maintain situational awareness of authentication-related fraud trends and provide insights in governance forums to guide mitigation planning and control recommendations.
- Continuously assess process efficiencies and advocate for automation in authentication monitoring, rule validation, and fraud reporting to improve response accuracy and operational reduce overhead.
Requirements
This role requires strong collaboration with business, risk, and technology partners to support both project-specific and broader strategic needs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining business requirements, developing and presenting mitigation strategies to senior leadership, and contributing to authentication design and fraud risk architecture and design. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential.
- 6+ year experience in fraud risk, digital platforms, programming or related domain, preferred
- Proven expertise in digital platforms, including mobile/online platforms, API-based authentication, device and behavioral intelligence, and risk-based multifactor strategies
- Familiarity with device fingerprinting, orchestration layers, and customer authentication along with programming exposure.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and drive actionable outcomes.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, influence stakeholders, and drive initiatives across cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated experience in Agile delivery and project management methodologies
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Masters degree preferred
LI-BS1
- Experience with C, C++, Java strongly preferred
- Experience with SQL, Data Warehousing, Tableau preferred, Analytical Thinking, Controls Lifecycle, Credible Challenge, Governance, Policy, Procedure, and Regulation, Risk Management Lifecycle.

$103,920.00 - $155,880.00
