Job description

Below are example impact areas over your first 3, 6, and 12 months. At Hinge Health, we regularly adjust priorities to respond to member needs and business incentives, so these are illustrative rather than fixed checklists.

  • In your first 3 months:
  • Help define the GI product line from scratch.
  • Build strong partnerships with Product, Design, and Marketing to align on the strategy, experimentation roadmap, and success metrics.
  • Lead the technical roadmap development for the new GI product line spanning AI systems, UX interfaces, business logic middletier, hardware integration and where to loop in the board-certified clinician for in-person support to members.
  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts for the hardest parts of the new product line
  • In your first 6 months:
  • Build the GI product as a minimum lovable product (MLP) delivering a significant & measurable health improvement for members.
  • Mentor and pair with engineers on the pod, helping them grow in engineering best practices, code quality, and experimentation mindset.
  • Create engineering best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and client performance across the entire stack.
  • Personally develop the hardest, most challenging software elements in the product roadmap.
  • In your first year:
  • Have launched the new product and already work on iterations to adapt it using real member feedback post-launch.
  • Drive cross-team initiatives to improve the end-to-end journey for GI end users
  • Continuously raise engineering standards on the pod (testing, observability, reliability, accessibility, performance) and help scale the team’s impact as the product and membership grow., * 0->1 Builder: We are looking for an engineer with a track record of building brand new products from scratch.
  • Talent magnet: someone who is recognized as a leader and other people want to work with.
  • AI-Driven development: You have been using the latest AI software development techniques (ex: teams of AI Agents) and continuously look for new AI techniques that can improve your productivity.
  • You move fast, know how to balance innovation vs reuse, and deliver clear business results.
  • Hands-on engineer: You’re reading and writing code across the tech stack (e.g., React Native, BFF/full-stack web, GraphQL, AI Agents, Computer Vision, Medical Device Integration, etc), and you use that fluency to coach, review, and set technical direction.
  • Experiment-driven operator: You think in terms of hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules, and you can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality.
  • Team mentor and collaborator: You enjoy leveling up a strong but more junior team through pairing, code reviews, design discussions, and clear written communication.
  • Owner mindset: You think in terms of systems and business impact, not just tickets-you’re comfortable taking a problem from idea through launch, measurement, and iteration.
  • Inclusive team builder: You create clear expectations, give direct feedback, and foster a culture where engineers can do the best work of their careers.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4+ years of practical software engineering experience, including building and shipping user-facing applications in production.
  • A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
  • 2+ years of hands-on React Native experience building mobile applications at scale., * Technologies: Experience building in large React Native codebases, TypeScript/Node.js & Go backends, GraphQL, AWS services (e.g., Lambda, SQS, SNS, SageMaker), tooling for client performance, render optimization, devops and app architecture patterns.
  • Product Integration mindset: History operating a product surface that integrates across multiple platforms owned by different teams.
  • Track record of running experiments (e.g., A/B tests or multivariate tests) on core product surfaces and using results to drive roadmap decisions.
  • Strong proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript, React Native, and modern mobile development tooling; familiarity with backend services (e.g., Node/TypeScript, GraphQL, or similar) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance.
  • Comfort collaborating with product, design, and data/analytics partners to define metrics, interpret results, and refine experiences.
  • Experience developing consumer-facing apps used by millions/billions of users.
  • Regulated environments: Experience working within healthcare (HIPAA) or other highly regulated domains involving sensitive member data.

Benefits & conditions

  • Inclusive healthcare and benefits: On top of comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, we offer employees and their family members help with gender-affirming care, tools for family and fertility planning, and travel reimbursements if healthcare isn’t available where you live.
  • Planning for the future: Start saving for the future with our traditional or Roth 401k retirement plan options which include a 2% company match.
  • Modern life stipends: Manage your own learning and development.
  • Grow with us through discounted company stock through our ESPP with easy payroll deductions.

About the company

Hinge Health is a leader in Digital Physical Therapy, and we’re expanding into new areas of care. In April 2026, we launched our comprehensive Migraine Care Program, extending our digital care platform beyond physical therapy. We’re now building a new team to launch a Gastrointestinal (GI) Care Program. GI conditions affect roughly one in four U.S. adults and drive $135 billion in annual medical spending.

Our planned acquisition of Cylinder Health, a leader in virtual-first digestive healthcare, gives us a strong foundation for entering this market. By combining Cylinder’s clinical expertise and market presence with Hinge Health’s AI-powered care model and technology platform, we can rapidly build a new GI product expected to launch in 2027.

As a Staff Software Engineer for GI, you’ll help shape an end-to-end digital care experience for people living with GI conditions. You’ll lead rapid experiments to validate assumptions, navigate complex technical and product challenges, and turn what you learn into a reliable, scalable product that can improve members’ health at meaningful scale.

At Hinge Health, staff engineers are senior technical contributors who lead through code, technical judgment, and influence. You’ll set direction for critical systems, contribute to production code daily, raise the quality bar, and mentor other engineers without moving into people management. You’ll partner closely with senior leadership and teams across Product, Design, and Marketing in San Francisco, Montreal, and Bangalore., At Hinge Health, we’re using technology to scale and automate the delivery of healthcare - starting with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, which affect over 1.7 billion people worldwide. With an AI-powered human-centered care model, Hinge Health leverages cutting-edge technology to improve outcomes, experiences and costs to help people move beyond their pain. The platform addresses a broad spectrum of MSK care - from acute injury, to chronic pain, to post-surgical rehabilitation - through personalized, evidence-based care. As the preferred partner to 60+ health plans, PBMs and other ecosystem partners, Hinge Health is available to over 20 million people across more than 2,800 employers. The company is headquartered in San Francisco with additional offices in Montreal and Bangalore. Learn more at http://www.hingehealth.com.
