Job description

Our client, a leading retailer recognized for its large-scale digital commerce and enterprise technology ecosystem, is seeking a Developer to join a team responsible for powering enterprise pricing systems. This role will support applications that process and publish price changes through REST APIs and Kafka-based event-driven services, helping ensure accurate and timely pricing across a high-volume retail environment. The team is currently completing a major platform modernization initiative focused on improving scalability, throughput, reliability, and performance. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to both a modernized architecture and an established production platform while delivering new business capabilities. This is a senior-level individual contributor role ideal for someone who can quickly navigate complex enterprise systems, work independently, and collaborate effectively with globally distributed engineering teams., As a Developer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and supporting backend systems that process large volumes of pricing data. You will contribute to the continued evolution of a modern event-driven platform while ensuring the stability and performance of existing production applications. In this role, you will work closely with engineering teams across multiple locations, helping deliver scalable solutions that support critical business operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced backend developer with strong Java expertise, hands-on Kafka experience, and a proven track record of working within large enterprise environments. Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain enterprise backend applications using Java and Kotlin
  • Design, build, and support high-volume RESTful APIs
  • Develop Kafka producer and consumer solutions for event-driven processing
  • Contribute to platform modernization initiatives focused on scalability and performance
  • Support and enhance existing production systems while delivering new functionality
  • Design, test, troubleshoot, and deploy production-ready software solutions
  • Work with relational and distributed databases to support business-critical applications
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders in Agile development environments
  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical design decisions
  • Deliver high-quality code with minimal supervision

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience developing enterprise applications using Java
  • Professional experience with Kotlin or the ability to quickly become productive in Kotlin
  • Strong experience building distributed backend services using Apache Kafka, including producer and consumer implementations
  • Senior-level experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs
  • Experience working with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar relational database technologies
  • Familiarity with distributed NoSQL databases such as Cassandra
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise applications and established codebases
  • Ability to quickly learn existing systems and contribute with minimal guidance
  • Strong troubleshooting, testing, and software delivery skills
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working within Agile development environments
  • Availability to participate in meetings during Minneapolis (Central Time) business hours, * Experience with modular monorepo architectures
  • Experience working in framework-light or framework-free Java applications
  • Experience with RocksDB
  • Experience supporting high-throughput, event-driven, or large-scale distributed systems
  • Retail, pricing, or eCommerce platform experience
  • Experience with Oracle Exadata environments
  • Architecture, technical design, or solution ownership experience
