Job description

The primary responsibility of the Reliability & Short-Term Projects Engineer is to improve the reliability, availability, and performance of production assets while managing short-term capital and continuous improvement projects throughout the facility. This role leads reliability initiatives including asset management, predictive maintenance, failure analysis, and reliability-centered maintenance programs while overseeing the planning and execution of equipment upgrades, facility modifications, infrastructure improvements, and small-to-medium capital projects. The position works closely with Maintenance, Production, Quality, Safety, and Engineering teams to improve manufacturing performance, reduce downtime, and achieve operational objectives. This position will be working with sensitive information; therefore, it will require an NDA., Reliability

  • Develop and lead site reliability programs to improve equipment performance, availability, and lifecycle management.
  • Analyze equipment performance data and identify opportunities to reduce failures, downtime, and maintenance costs.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations for significant equipment and process failures.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain an asset criticality assessment process to prioritize maintenance strategies, spare parts inventory, capital investments, and reliability improvement efforts.
  • Develop Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategies and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Lead implementation and optimization of condition monitoring technologies including vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound inspection, motor circuit analysis, and oil analysis programs.
  • Establish alarm limits and response protocols for predictive maintenance findings
  • Monitor key reliability metrics including MTBF, MTTR, equipment uptime, and maintenance costs.
  • Review and optimize preventive maintenance frequencies and job plans based on equipment history, failure modes, and reliability data.
  • Eliminate non-value-added PM tasks and improve PM effectiveness
  • Partner with Maintenance leadership to optimize preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Develop critical spare parts strategies and work closely with Maintenance and Storeroom teams.
  • Support equipment standardization and asset lifecycle planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability and operational performance.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and resource plans.
  • Collaboration and Leadership
  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and EHS departments to support plant objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to maintenance and technical teams.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, project files, equipment records, and reliability reports.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

JOB EFFICIENCY MEASURES

Job performance will be assessed using measurable metrics, which may include but are not limited to:

  • Production output and throughput targets.
  • Accuracy and quality rates.
  • Adherence to safety, regulatory, and compliance standards.
  • Equipment uptime, utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • On-time completion and schedule adherence.
  • Participation in and contribution to continuous improvement initiatives., sustained physical activity, and maintaining situational awareness in a dynamic production environment. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Work schedules may include extended shifts, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays based on production demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in maintenance, reliability, engineering, project management, or manufacturing operations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of asset reliability, maintenance systems, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), FMEA, and preventive/predictive maintenance methodologies.
  • Project management experience involving equipment installations, capital improvements, and facility upgrades.
  • Experience working within food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments .
  • · Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment, utilities, automation systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, and external service providers.
  • Proficiency with SAP, CMMS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and project scheduling tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Fluency in English required; Spanish is a plus.
  • Certifications: Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, and/or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL), * Must be willing to travel up to 15% of the time.
