Job description

Our company is growing fast and we need people like you who want to be part of something big. People who want a real challenge in a place where they can learn about a host of emerging technologies, including blockchain, digital assets, and renewable energy.

We need entrepreneurs at heart.

We are a people-first, data-driven organization that is seeking individuals who want to do meaningful work.

What You’ll Do

The Network Engineering Consultant will be responsible for all aspects of Soluna’s networks and will ensure maximum uptime while continuously improving resiliency, security, and maintainability throughout the engagement. This role will include designing, documenting, and increasing the security of new and existing networks. Responsibilities will include life cycle management, change control processes, new deployments, network traffic analysis, and maintenance of existing networks. This engagement will require periodic travel to Soluna facilities for network maintenance, upgrades, and initial standup.

Our ideal consultant will work with our Network Architect to create and maintain our networks, they are the backbone of our business. This role is key to ensuring maximum uptime for each data center location throughout the engagement. If you are a hands-on problem solver who owns their work, knows when to ask the right questions, and is eager to contribute to the future of digital assets, this engagement will be a great fit.

The Network Engineering Consultant will work as part of the Engineering organization for the duration of the 12-month engagement, partnering closely with Engineering, Product, Operations, and IT. Our ideal consultant is self-directed, detail-oriented, works well across cross-functional teams, and is driven to identify the true root cause of an issue. This role will report directly to the VP, Engineering.

You will:

  • Work with the Network Architect to design and implement new network solutions and improve the efficiency of current networks
  • Install, configure, and support network equipment including firewalls, switches, VLANs, DNS and DHCP servers
  • Configure firewalls, routing, and switching to maximize network efficiency and security
  • Improve network monitoring and alerting across all sites
  • Investigate network faults and generate a root cause analysis report following resolution
  • Maintain all network equipment at the latest versions and patches
  • Identify and raise critical issues to stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with the System Administrator to maintain networking systems
  • Support knowledge transfer and documentation to ensure continuity beyond the engagement

Requirements

  • Familiarity with both copper and fiber connections
  • Comprehensive understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, multicast, spanning tree, VRRP, and OSPF
  • Comprehensive knowledge of multiple DHCP servers such as DHCPd, DHCP failover, and the DHCP option 82 schema
  • Familiarity with pfSense and Fortinet firewalls including VPNs, IPsec tunnels, and policies
  • Familiarity with Juniper, Buffalo, and TP-Link layer 3 managed switches
  • Experience using or implementing network tools like Netflow, IPFIX, and SNMP
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, analyze, and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating reliably
  • Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting Wi-Fi/WLAN and security infrastructure
  • 5+ years of experience as a network engineer in a corporate environment or data center
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, potentially on short notice
  • Availability for a 12-month engagement
  • Certifications a bonus, but not required

About the company

At Soluna, we are using computing to accelerate a future where renewable energy is the primary source of energy in the world.

Our company is driven by three fundamental beliefs:

  • The world needs more renewable energy…. and computing can be a powerful catalyst for meeting that need.
  • Stranded renewable energy – usable clean energy that often goes to waste – is one of the biggest unsolved problems for the economics of renewable energy.
  • Sustainable Computing is not only ready for scale, but it will play an integral role in solving this problem.

Our estimate is that around 225 Terawatt hours of renewable energy are spilled globally.

That’s a lot of energy!

Most renewable power plant operators struggle to sell all of the energy they generate. We build small-footprint data centers to buy & use all of their wasted energy. So they earn profits & tax credits for every megawatt they produce.

Our specialized data centers run computing-intensive applications powered by clean energy for: Cryptocurrency Mining * Artificial Intelligence * Deep Learning * Machine Learning * Scientific Computing * Natural Language Processing * Video Transcoding and more.

We’re solving the wasted renewable energy problem…

Our mission is to help power plant owners get more megawatts to the grid.

With us, they can SELL. EVERY. MEGAWATT.

And…

We help the data scientists of the world solve the world’s most pressing problems with the comfort of knowing that they are not destroying the planet in the process., Why join Soluna?

We are a diverse, driven team of entrepreneurs, energy experts, private equity leaders, storytellers and engineers. We are passionate about making the world greener and we have conviction about how we will bring change on a global scale.

We are equally as zealous about championing our teams, relentless about developing our people, and believe strongly that Soluna’s goals and commitment to our mission are strengthened by our employee’s voices.
