Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Technician III to support the input, processing, and maintenance of Alabama Power distribution lines and equipment assets within an ESRI GIS database ., * Input, process, update, and maintain electric distribution line and equipment asset data in an ESRI GIS database.

  • Review and validate GIS data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Maintain records related to Alabama Power distribution assets.
  • Support GIS mapping, data editing, and database maintenance activities.
  • Work with internal teams to resolve data discrepancies and ensure accurate system updates.
  • Use ESRI ArcGIS tools to support utility distribution mapping and asset management.
  • Follow established procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in training, meetings, and other business-related activities as needed.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Productivity software?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, This role requires experience with GIS data maintenance, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team environment. The position will begin with an estimated training period of approximately 3 months onsite in Birmingham, AL , after which the role may transition to primarily remote work with occasional in-office requirements for meetings, training, or business needs., * High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • One of the following is required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field
  • GIS Certificate
  • At least 2 years of full-time GIS work experience
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software required.
  • Proficiency with standard computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be flexible to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Must be able to work 8- or 10-hour shifts, starting as early as 7:00 AM and ending as late as 5:00 PM.
  • Must currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Birmingham, AL.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro .
  • Knowledge of electric power distribution systems.
  • Experience with CAD / Computer-Aided Drafting.
  • Prior utility, engineering, or infrastructure mapping experience.
