Job description

  • Lead the design, development and delivery of secure, scalable and high-quality software solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineers, promoting continuous improvement and best practice.
  • Design and evolve robust architectures, including microservices, REST APIs and event-driven systems.
  • Translate complex business and user requirements into maintainable, performant technical solutions.
  • Drive engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews and cloud-native development.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex architectural, performance and technical-debt issues.
  • Collaborate with Product, Delivery, UX, Architecture and DevOps teams in agile, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ensure systems meet security, resilience, accessibility, performance and government standards.
  • Contribute to technical strategy, architecture decisions and engineering standards across teams.
  • Take ownership of technical delivery and work effectively under broad direction.

Requirements

  • Expert-level software engineering experience, particularly with Java and modern development practices.
  • Strong experience with microservices, RESTful APIs and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, secure coding and operational resilience.
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams to deliver user-centred digital services.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
