Job description

Lead the design, development and delivery of secure, scalable and high-quality software solutions.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineers, promoting continuous improvement and best practice.
Design and evolve robust architectures, including microservices, REST APIs and event-driven systems.
Translate complex business and user requirements into maintainable, performant technical solutions.
Drive engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews and cloud-native development.
Diagnose and resolve complex architectural, performance and technical-debt issues.
Collaborate with Product, Delivery, UX, Architecture and DevOps teams in agile, multidisciplinary environments.
Ensure systems meet security, resilience, accessibility, performance and government standards.
Contribute to technical strategy, architecture decisions and engineering standards across teams.
Take ownership of technical delivery and work effectively under broad direction.

Requirements

Expert-level software engineering experience, particularly with Java and modern development practices.
Strong experience with microservices, RESTful APIs and event-driven architecture.
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis.
Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, secure coding and operational resilience.
Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers.
Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams to deliver user-centred digital services.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
