Job description

  • Serve as the senior technical lead for all aspects of network administration and data center architecture design supporting NCIS and collocated DoD agencies.
  • Plan and implement network infrastructure upgrades, architecture changes, and capacity expansions to support evolving mission requirements.
  • Monitors and controls the performance and status of network resources across multiple enclaves utilizing software and hardware tools.
  • Designs, configures, and installs networking hardware / software replacements and upgrades.
  • Develops and maintains all networking documentation (drawings, cut sheets, configurations, and deployment plans).
  • Works hand and hand with RKB tenant agency engineers in support of RKB networking related projects.
  • Identifies and diagnoses problems and factors affecting network performance.
  • Provides day-to-day subject matter expert support for RKB tenant agencies.
  • Troubleshoots networking issues and outages, which may occur during non-core hours.
  • Works with vendors in support of the ITCSU.
  • Ensures all networking applicable STIGs and vulnerabilities are resolved or mitigated in a timely manner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance services on all devices within the networking area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a current understanding of emerging technologies and trends in data center as well as service provider.
  • Safeguard and control COMSEC materials and manage cryptographic devices per DoD and DON standards, coordinating with NCIS EKMS personnel as required.
  • Support the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of routers, switches, and associated systems in both unclassified and classified environments.
  • Provide technical input for configuration management (CM), change management (CR/CN), and engineering documentation following ITCSU and DoD policies.
  • Support the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and configuration baselines in accordance with NCIS standards.
  • Participate in after-action reviews (AARs) and provide detailed reporting on network incidents, performance issues, and system outages.
  • Assist with network continuity and disaster recovery planning, ensuring rapid system restoration and minimal downtime.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly complex and progressive experience in computer system/network engineering. Includes two (2) years of data center experience.
  • Prior experience providing services of this type in a large government environment.
  • Must be DoD 8570 certified at the IAT-II / IAM-II level.
  • Expert knowledge of network engineering principles, routing and switching, and data center infrastructure management.
  • Experience with modern data center technologies, such as Cisco VPC, Cisco VDC, and VRF Lite is preferred but extensive experience with OSPF, BGP, and HSRP is required. Experience with Cisco ASR routers, Catalysts switches, Nexus switches and ASA Firewalls is required at contract start. Proficient in Microsoft Visio and Word.
  • Position requires Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Experience supporting and maintaining NIPRNet and SIPRNet network environments.
  • Proficiency with network performance monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of COMSEC requirements, including safeguarding and accountability for cryptographic equipment and keying materials.
  • Strong understanding of network security, firewall configuration, port security, and access control in compliance with DoD STIGs and RMF processes.
  • Experience supporting DoD or Navy network environments and familiarity with DISA policies, cybersecurity mandates, and DoN EA requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex configurations using Configuration Management (CM) processes and participate in Change Control Boards (CCB).
  • Strong documentation skills and proficiency in developing network diagrams, SOPs, and technical reports.
