Job description

The VDI Consultant will provide hands-on technical support for the deployment, configuration, administration, and optimization of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments. The consultant will support virtual desktop platforms, desktop images, Active Directory, Group Policy, security compliance, troubleshooting, and infrastructure upgrades. The role requires strong virtualization knowledge and the ability to work closely with infrastructure, IT operations, and security teams in a secure environment., VDI Deployment & Administration

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise VDI environments.
  • Support VMware-based virtual desktop platforms and related infrastructure.
  • Perform software and hardware installation activities associated with VDI environments.
  • Configure virtual desktops and supporting infrastructure.
  • Provision and manage virtual desktop resources based on operational requirements.

Desktop Image Management

  • Create, maintain, and update desktop and golden images.
  • Manage image configurations, applications, drivers, and system settings.
  • Support image deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to desktop images and user environments.

Active Directory & User Environment

  • Administer and troubleshoot Active Directory environments supporting VDI.
  • Configure and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
  • Support user profiles and profile-management technologies.
  • Troubleshoot authentication, permissions, policy, and user-access issues.

Troubleshooting & Performance

  • Diagnose and resolve VDI performance, connectivity, and availability issues.
  • Troubleshoot virtual desktop access and authentication problems.
  • Monitor VDI infrastructure performance and resource utilization.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend optimization measures.
  • Support scalability and capacity planning for the VDI environment.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure VDI systems and installations comply with applicable security requirements.
  • Support security hardening, patching, and vulnerability-remediation activities.
  • Collaborate with security teams on system updates and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain secure configurations across virtual desktops and supporting infrastructure.

Infrastructure Maintenance & Upgrades

  • Support operating-system, application, platform, and infrastructure updates.
  • Assist with VDI infrastructure upgrades and lifecycle-management activities.
  • Coordinate changes with IT infrastructure and security teams.
  • Validate system functionality following maintenance and upgrade activities.

Documentation & Support

  • Create and maintain VDI architecture, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Develop operational procedures and technical runbooks.
  • Provide technical support to users and IT teams.
  • Document incidents, resolutions, configurations, and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and administering VDI environments.
  • Strong VMware or comparable virtualization-platform experience.
  • Experience with desktop image and golden-image management.
  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Experience troubleshooting VDI performance, connectivity, and user-access issues.
  • Understanding of VDI security, patching, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in a secure environment., * Experience supporting federal, military, or DoD VDI environments.
  • VMware Horizon experience.
  • Experience with VDI profile-management technologies.
  • Knowledge of enterprise virtualization, networking, storage, and authentication.
  • Experience with VDI performance monitoring and capacity planning.
  • Familiarity with security-hardening standards and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience supporting large-scale VDI deployments and infrastructure upgrades.
