Job description

Are you passionate about technology and eager to keep a bustling educational environment running at peak performance? We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and proactive IT Support Technician to join our dynamic and forward-thinking school community in Somerset.

At our school, reliable and cutting-edge technology is the backbone of modern teaching and learning. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining our digital infrastructure, resolving technical issues swiftly, and supporting both staff and students in making the most of classroom tech. The Role

As our IT Technician, you will be the go-to expert for day-to-day hardware, software, and network troubleshooting across the school. Working closely with the IT Network Manager, you will ensure our digital learning environments are secure, seamless, and fully operational.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Helpdesk Support: Responding promptly to IT support tickets logged by staff and students, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network faults.
  • Hardware & Software Maintenance: Installing, configuring, and updating operating systems, classroom software, interactive whiteboards, and desktop/laptop devices.
  • Network & Device Management: Assisting with user account management (Active Directory/Google Workspace/Office 365), password resets, and network permissions.
  • Hardware Repairs: Carrying out routine diagnostic checks, hardware upgrades, and minor repairs on school-owned tech.
  • AV & Event Support: Setting up and providing technical assistance for audio-visual equipment during assemblies, school productions, and evening events.
  • Asset Tracking & Inventory: Keeping accurate records of all IT hardware, software licenses, and equipment deployments.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance: Helping maintain data security standards, backups, and safeguarding protocols across school networks.

Requirements

  • Qualified with a background in IT, Computing, or a related technical discipline (CompTIA, IT apprenticeship, degree, or equivalent experience).
  • Experienced in troubleshooting Windows/Mac operating systems, MS Office 365/Google Workspace, and basic network infrastructure.
  • Methodical, calm under pressure, and brilliant at solving technical problems efficiently.
  • Excellent at communicating technical information clearly to non-technical staff and students.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of prioritizing a busy helpdesk workload.
  • Friendly, approachable, and excited to support a vibrant educational community.

Benefits & conditions

Whether you are an established IT support professional looking for a stable school environment, or an ambitious graduate ready to launch your tech career in education, we want to hear from you! What We Offer

  • A welcoming, supportive, and technology-driven school environment situated in the heart of Somerset.
  • A varied and rewarding role where your technical skills directly enhance student learning.
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development and tech certifications.
  • Secure enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • A permanent position within an ambitious school community.

Safeguarding

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
