Assistant Professor of Data Analytics

The Department of Interdisciplinary and Professional Studies in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Data Analytics to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a twelve-month appointment with benefits. The initial appointment will be made for a probationary period of up to three years, with opportunity for recurring, continuing appointments of up to five years per appointment.

The School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) serves working adult students through flexible undergraduate and graduate programs that combine academic rigor with real-world relevance. We seek a teacher-scholar with expertise in data analytics who is committed to the academic and professional success of adult learners and who will contribute to the continued development of our Data Analytics program. Data Analytics curriculum is embedded in academic programs housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary & Professional Studies, which includes academic programming in data analytics, information systems and cybersecurity, human resource management, liberal arts, nonprofit studies, and organizational studies and effectiveness.

The successful candidate will teach five courses per year across both undergraduate and graduate data analytics curricula, including courses in data literacy, visualization, statistical analysis, and related areas. Additional responsibilities include developing and updating curriculum in response to industry trends and student needs, maintaining active scholarly engagement in data analytics that informs teaching and supports curriculum development, collaborating with adjunct faculty to ensure instructional quality and consistency, participating in program assessment and accreditation activities, supporting student recruitment through occasional program representation at events, serving on School and University committees, and carrying out other functions as may be appropriate to the position. SPCS faculty enjoy hybrid teaching formats and generous professional development funding.

Ability to teach across data analytics and information systems, particularly in a higher education setting and with experience teaching adult and continuing learners, is strongly preferred. Additional areas of interest or experience that are preferred: industry experience in data analytics or related field; online or hybrid teaching and course development; curriculum development and program assessment; and ability to contribute to other SPCS disciplines as program needs evolve.

A Ph.D. or DBA in data analytics, data science, information systems, statistics, mathematics, operations research, or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment.

The starting salary for this position is budgeted at $79,000. Compensation is determined by the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, and skills.
