Job description
- Lead the design, development, implementation, integration, and ongoing support of business-critical applications.
- Oversee core banking platform environments, including patch management, environment refreshes, and operational support.
- Provide fix-on-fail support for core banking and associated infrastructure platforms.
- Manage application development projects, enhancements, and change delivery from planning through implementation.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of developers and application support analysts.
- Establish and maintain high-performing application support services, ensuring SLA compliance and effective incident management.
- Conduct root cause analysis and drive improvements to application stability and performance.
- Coordinate upgrades, maintenance activities, and technology refresh programmes with minimal business disruption.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors and technology partners.
- Implement application monitoring, performance optimisation, and support processes.
- Ensure applications remain compliant with regulatory, security, audit, and data protection requirements.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning across all supported applications.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, project teams, and external suppliers to align priorities and delivery plans.
- Manage budgets for support, maintenance, and enhancement activities.
- Contribute to resource planning, capacity management, and annual technology investment planning.
Requirements
- Experience leading application development and support teams within a regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of application lifecycle management, SDLC, Agile delivery methodologies, and DevOps practices.
- Proven application support and incident management experience within complex technical environments.
- Experience managing software development, testing, deployment, and documentation processes.
- Strong project and delivery management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
- Knowledge of ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
- Experience with banking or financial services applications is highly desirable.
- Technical expertise in AS/400, IBM Power Systems, RPG, and COBOL.
- Understanding of end-of-day processing, backup and recovery processes, and platform performance management.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Relevant certifications such as PMP, Scrum Master, ITIL, or technical certifications are advantageous.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers and outsourced delivery partners.

- Interim IT leadership opportunity - up to £550/day
- 6 month contract - immediate start, * Daily rate of £450 to £550, dependent on the level of experience.
