Job description
- Design new databases and enhance existing database environments.
- Write and maintain SQL queries and Transact-SQL (T-SQL) stored procedures.
- Troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and document and implement effective solutions.
- Optimize database performance through query rewriting, indexing, execution plan analysis, and database design improvements.
- Work closely with Software Engineers and Data Scientists to improve data flow from collection through reporting.
- Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Create, manage, and monitor data pipelines, including ETL/ELT processes.
- Monitor database environments and take appropriate action when system or performance issues arise.
- Maintain technical documentation and follow database development best practices.
- Adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Continuously develop new technical skills and stay current with relevant technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 4+ years of experience working with SQL Server and data engineering.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, T-SQL, database design, and normalization.
- Strong understanding of SQL Server database engine concepts, including buffer pool, parallelism, execution plans, and indexing.
- 2+ years of experience creating, managing, and monitoring ETL/ELT data pipelines.
- Experience working with C#, .NET, and/or Python.
- 2+ years of experience working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and move between different projects and technical challenges as business needs change.
- Positive attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow.
- Ability and willingness to work fully onsite, five days per week, in the greater St. Louis region., * Experience supporting databases and applications operating at scale.
- Experience collaborating with Software Engineering and Data Science teams.
- Experience gathering technical requirements directly from business stakeholders.
- Strong database performance tuning and optimization experience.
