Job description

A fantastic opportunity for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a growing, integration-focused SaaS company. Working within a small and experienced engineering team, you will build and maintain a wide range of production integrations with external software platforms. This is a highly autonomous role combining hands-on PHP and Symfony development with complex third-party API integration work and increasing ownership of the company’s AWS infrastructure., * Design, build and maintain multiple third-party integrations using PHP and Symfony

  • Develop individual microservices connecting the platform with external APIs and webhook-based systems
  • Take ownership of a new family of integrations from initial design through to production
  • Contribute to platform and API features across the wider software estate
  • Investigate production issues and identify whether problems originate from the code, configuration or an external platform
  • Learn the existing AWS environment and progress towards significant infrastructure ownership
  • Improve observability, automated testing and CI/CD quality gates across the platform
  • Support upgrades to current versions of PHP and Symfony
  • Contribute informed opinions to architectural decisions as the platform continues to scale
  • Participate in a paid weekend on-call rota supporting urgent out-of-hours issues
  • Collaborate asynchronously through messaging, pull requests and focused technical discussions

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience developing production software using PHP
  • Commercial experience using Symfony
  • Proven experience building and maintaining multiple third-party integrations in production
  • Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, rate limiting, retries, error handling and asynchronous systems
  • Strong production experience with AWS, including containers, monitoring and incident response
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform
  • Strong understanding of automated testing, code quality and CI/CD practices
  • Experience independently troubleshooting integrations involving external systems and incomplete documentation
  • A pragmatic approach to engineering, with the ability to balance technical quality against commercial delivery requirements
  • Comfortable working autonomously within a small, fully remote engineering team
  • Confident proposing solutions and challenging technical decisions constructively
  • Willingness to participate in a paid weekend on-call rota -approx. once a month (you will be paid even if no calls are taken)
  • Based in the UK, with the right to work
  • Experience within payments, travel technology, marketplaces, hospitality or another integration-heavy SaaS environment would be beneficial

Benefits & conditions

Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 per annum depending on experience. Additional paid weekend on-call rota, performance bonus and share options.
