Job description
SAIC is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to join our innovative Air Ground Interoperability and Integration Lab (AGIIL) team, supporting U.S. Army DEVCOM. In this critical role, you will contribute to the development and sustainment of cutting-edge tactical networking and messaging solutions that are vital to national security and the operational effectiveness of our warfighters. This role is on-site at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.
As a Systems Engineer within the AGIIL team, you will play a pivotal role in the full lifecycle development of our advanced tactical communication systems. You will be instrumental in translating operational needs into robust technical solutions, ensuring the successful delivery of critical capabilities for the U.S. Army and other DoW customers. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects that directly impact military readiness and national defense. You will apply a comprehensive understanding of Systems Engineering principles to design, integrate, and verify complex systems in a fast-paced R&D environment, contributing independently while also collaborating closely with senior engineers and mentors., * Lead and perform Systems Engineering activities across the entire lifecycle, from concept development and requirements definition to operations and sustainment, specifically for Aviation-based, Medical-based, or Tactical Networking systems.
- Provide technical oversight for development efforts, utilizing both traditional (e.g., waterfall, spiral) and agile/prototype methodologies.
- Develop and evolve operational concepts, system architectures, and detailed design specifications.
- Conduct thorough requirements analysis, flow-down, and verification planning, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
- Manage and maintain the technical baseline through rigorous Configuration Management practices.
- Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detailed trade studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- Contribute to the definition of interface and data architectures, data definition standards, and validation and verification processes.
- Analyze system and operational performance, conduct lifecycle cost analysis, and support decision analysis activities.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and test engineers, to ensure integrated system solutions.
- Contribute to the design and optimization of IT infrastructure elements such as data storage, network architecture, and identity management, as they pertain to system deployment and operations within our lab and fielded systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics with a minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience; additional six (6) years’ experience can be considered in lieu of degree (per contract vehicle)., * Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team to achieve project goals and meet stringent deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences, including senior management and military personnel.
- Demonstrated capability to research, interpret, and apply technical orders, directives, regulations, and policies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex situations, propose viable solutions, and drive mission execution.
- Ability to perform effectively and maintain composure in high-stress, fast-paced environments., * Experience with Systems Engineering documentation, including Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), and the ability to derive system requirements from customer interactions and provided documentation.
- Familiarity with tactical networking systems and DoW Aviation messaging standards.
- Prior experience working in a development environment or a U.S. Government program office.
- Proficiency in authoring, reviewing, and collaborating with technical writers to produce high-quality engineering documentation.
